As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of the entertainment industry, I wholeheartedly applaud Huma Qureshi‘s journey and the wisdom she has gathered along the way. Her experience, especially the advice from David Dhawan, serves as an inspiring reminder that body positivity is not just a buzzword but a necessity in our society.
Despite ongoing discussions in Bollywood about body positivity, actresses frequently face criticism for weight gain. Lately, Huma Qureshi, an actress recognized for her diverse and influential roles, reminisced about a time early in her career when director David Dhawan advised her to disregard comments concerning her physique.
Recently, Huma Qureshi shared memories of her first movie role in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) during a chat with Mashable India.
One day, I stumbled upon famous filmmaker David Dhawan at a café in Mumbai and was thrilled when he acknowledged me. To my delight, the director of Judwaa approached me personally and started conversing with me.
Suddenly, their conversation shifted towards body positivity in the film industry, and he gave her significant advice. She said, “He said, ‘Beta, you are a very good actor. Tereko bahaut log bolenge weight loss karle, surgery karle, kuch nahi karna” (A lot of people will ask you to lose weight, get a surgery done, don’t do any of it).
The refreshing and supportive comment moved Huma. Dhawan added that the audience accepted her in her debut film, and once that happened, she didn’t need to do anything else. He further advised her to focus on entertaining the audience without paying attention to other comments.
She pondered over the guidance she received and found it to be ‘sound advice’, as it came from a recognized figure within the field. This endorsement left her feeling inspired. The actress from Double XL expressed, “And when such seasoned professionals in the industry casually offer you counsel like this, you don’t forget it: ‘I must not overlook it.'” (I should not forget it.)
The actress frequently discusses body positivity in her interviews and actually made a movie, “Double XL,” which premiered in 2022, dealing with the same topic and featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal as co-stars.
In terms of her professional life, Huma Qureshi recently appeared in the movie Tarla and the TV show Madness Machayenge – India Ko Hasayenge. Coming up next for her is Jolly LLB 3, where she will share screen time with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi.
