As a child of the ’90s, the news about *NSYNC’s reunion and subsequent fallout left me feeling like I had just watched the latest season of a favorite TV show, only to have it abruptly canceled before the big finale. The rollercoaster of emotions mirrors my own life journey – from the highs of school dances and sleepovers, to the lows of heartbreaks and job interviews.
Last year, millennials everywhere got excited when *NSYNC reunited to release a song for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack, and many hoped that a tour might follow. Unfortunately, those plans didn’t materialize as Justin Timberlake was busy preparing for his new album launch and world tour. It seemed like history was repeating itself, around twenty years after the artist embarked on his solo career. However, Chris Kirkpatrick recently stated that there was tension when *NSYNC’s lead singer put the band on an indefinite hold in 2002, but now it appears they have moved past it.
Chris Kirkpatrick And Lance Bass Discuss ‘Anger’ Over *NSYNC Hiatus
In the recently released documentary titled “Larger Than Life: Reign of the Boybands” (streamable with a Paramount+ subscription), Chris Kirkpatrick from ‘NSYNC reminisced that following their 2002 tour, the band took a hiatus to give Justin Timberlake time to work on his solo album. The rest of the group supported this endeavor. However, according to the record label, they were supposed to reunite in six months to create fresh music. Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming success of Timberlake’s “Justified” album, he never rejoined the group. Kirkpatrick mentioned this on the documentary as reported by People.
Man, those early days were tough. The hostility was palpable, the anger ran high, and there was a deep-seated resentment that hung in the air. At times, I found myself questioning if we’d ever be able to mend fences again.
Johnny Wright, previously manager for the band *NSYNC and currently managing the artist from the album “Everything I Thought It Was“, discussed in a documentary how Justin Timberlake essentially had no other option but to surf the crest of his solo success. Although Lance Bass, another boyband member, comprehended the situation, he expressed dissatisfaction with how it was managed, stating: “I understood the predicament, but I didn’t appreciate the way it was dealt with.
We know Justin’s talent is unmatched, and we wanted to express our respect for him.
Looking back over two decades, it’s been quite a while since our last joint project, aside from collaborating on the Trolls Band Together single for the third movie of this beloved franchise featuring Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick. Unfortunately, the five of us haven’t graced the stage together again as a band.
Joey Fatone Supports Justin Timberlake And Talks *NSYNC’s Future
With so much time having passed, much of the early aughts drama seems to be water under the bridge now. The band did reunite for a surprise performance at a JT concert in March, and Joey Fatone even supported his bandmate at the November 9 stop of the Forget Tomorrow World Tour in Orlando, Florida. He posted a fun video on Instagram, taking fans backstage and saying how proud he is of Justin Timberlake:

Regarding the future plans of *NSYNC, it appears that the band members remain undecided on their next steps. Specifically, Joey Fatone shared with People magazine that they’re currently in a standstill.
We haven’t talked about that topic just yet… However, once Justin finishes his tour, I hope we can take some time to discuss our future plans. Frankly, I’m eager for this conversation, whether the answer is yes or no – I simply want clarity. Let me know so we can proceed with our lives. If it’s time to call it quits and move on, then that’s fine; otherwise, let’s explore our options together.
It seems very similar to what Lance Bass had in mind initially, and I’m sure ’90s kids, just like me, can’t help but feel excited and curious to discover if those discussions will eventually bear fruit.
