As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for action and sci-fi, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news of Michael Biehn joining the cast of A24’s upcoming flick, “Onslaught.” The man who brought Kyle Reese to life in James Cameron’s “The Terminator” is back, and this time he’s not just saving Sarah Connor—he’s leading an elite mercenary team!
Actor Michael Biehn, famously known for his roles in films like “The Terminator,” “Aliens,” and “The Abyss” under director James Cameron, is making a comeback. He’s the latest addition to Adam Wingard’s upcoming film, described as a high-octane action horror thriller by The Hollywood Reporter. Joining Biehn in this project are Reginald VelJohnson, best recognized for his work on “Family Matters” and recently appreciated on “Dancing with the Stars,” and Eric Wareheim from “Tim & Eric.” They join previously announced cast members Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, and Drew Starkey.
UFC Champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira is in discussions to take on the villain role, The Butcher, in the upcoming movie Onslaught. This would be his first appearance in a feature film. Arjona will play the lead character, a woman living in a trailer who has to rely on her hidden talents to shield her loved ones after she encounters danger from an escaped military base threat. VelJohnson and Wareheim are cast as residents of her trailer park community. Stevens portrays a German scientist, while Biehn plays the commander of a special mercenary squad tasked with eliminating the danger.
The movie “Onslaught” is being produced by Ryder Picture Company, led by A24’s Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett, along with Lyrical Media’s Alexander Black, Barrett, and Wingard, as well as Jeremy Platt under Breakaway Civilization. The screenplay for this film is penned by Simon Barrett, a frequent collaborator of director Adam Wingard. Known for his distinctive style in movies like “The Guest,” “You’re Next,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and others, Wingard has a reputation for seamlessly blending different genres and narrative styles, promising an unconventional and visually striking film. Filming for this project starts this month in New Mexico.
Michael Biehn Became an Icon Thanks to Several James Cameron Collaborations
Michael Biehn’s most notable role is often regarded as his portrayal of Kyle Reese in James Cameron’s movie, The Terminator. Although he reappeared as Reese in the sequel to The Terminator, his scenes were removed from the final version (however, he does show up in the Special Edition). During the 1980s, Biehn teamed up with Cameron three times more, taking on the roles of Dwayne Hicks in Aliens (1986) and Lt. Coffey in The Abyss (1989). After achieving fame in these sci-fi productions, Biehn went on to work on films like Navy SEALs, Tombstone, The Rock, and The Magnificent Seven series throughout the 1990s.
During the 2000s, Michael Biehn predominantly worked on low-key productions, either acting or producing. However, he’s still managed to make guest appearances on popular TV series like The Mandalorian, Criminal Minds, and The Walking Dead. In 2011, he stepped into the director’s chair for the thrillers The Blood Bond and The Victim. This year, his latest film credit was for Rippy (originally titled The Red), a chilling Australian horror-thriller that revolves around a zombie kangaroo.
