As a seasoned gamer with years of RPG adventures under my belt, I must say that the journey to obtain the Mountaincleaver in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is nothing short of epic. It’s a testament to how games from yesteryears could weave an intricate and immersive storyline within the confines of gameplay.
In the remake of Dragon Quest 3, the Mountaincleaver is a crucial tool that significantly influences the course of the gameplay.
Previously referred to as either the “Sword of Gaia” or simply “Gaia Sword,” this blade is now accessible for both the Hero and Warrior character types. It provides an enhancement of +51 to their attacking power.
This article covers how to get the Mountaincleaver in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
How To Get The Mountaincleaver
Your first stop is the Teleportal Shrine, which is down in the snowy southeast of Grimland.
To reach the secluded Wayfarer’s Chapel, located on a remote island unreachable by boat due to surrounding mountain ranges, please utilize the portal on your right side as your guide.
As I embark on this adventure, I’ll head westward towards the grand kingdom of Manoza. My goal is to sneak my way into its imposing castle. Instead of the main gate, I’ll opt for a more discreet entry: the servants’ side entrance, hoping it will grant me access to Manoza Castle unnoticed.
Although you can explore at night, the main goal is to enter in the daytime. This leads to an encounter with the king, and you’ll end up locked up.
Fortunately, having the Ultimate Key at this point allows you to escape the jail without trouble.
In the course of your breakout, you’ll discover that the genuine monarch is likewise incarcerated. This revelation will provide you with crucial information about the false king, helping you decide your next steps.
After leaving the castle, head in a direction slightly towards the east-southeast, aiming for Manoza Cave. Descend the steps leading to the cave, then search for a deep hole or depression which could be the pit you’re looking for.
Jump down into the hole to discover a chest that carries Ra’s Mirror; this artifact can expose the true identity of the deceptive ruler.
Seize the opportunity to explore the cave further for hidden riches, or focus on gaining experience to better face upcoming obstacles.
Head back to Manoza while holding Ra’s Mirror. Await the arrival of night, and once more, sneak into the castle via the servant’s entrance after dark.
Ascend the towers, jump onto the rooftop to gain access to the king’s private chambers. Employ Ra’s Mirror on the slumbering monarch to reveal his actual shape as a Troll Overlord.
Overpower this formidable enemy by casting boosting spells such as Empowerment to fortify your team and Defense Enhancement to bolster your shields.
After vanquishing the Boss Troll, you’ll acquire the Mod Rod. Now make your way to Grimland and locate an elderly resident residing in a hilltop house.
The Mod Rod has the quirky ability to change your party into creatures like Slimes or Dwarves.
Swap the Mod Rod with the elderly fellow to get the Boatman’s Bone, which you can use to locate the phantom ship sailing south of Romaria.
Venture aboard the ship and delve into its mysterious depths. Focus your investigation on the lower level, particularly the southern part, as it’s there that you’ll discover the Lover’s Locket.
The next step is to sail toward Olivia’s Promontory, a haunted area northeast of Romaria.
Previously, the sorrowful wails of Olivia’s specter had kept ships from navigating through this tight waterway.
However, with the Lover’s Locket, Olivia’s spirit will reunite with her lost lover and find peace.
This clears the way for your ship to pass through the strait and reach the Shrine of Shackles.
As you enter, head down to the lower levels where the jail cells are.
Head to the left cell to discover an extra story segment expanding the game’s lore.
As the scene concludes, shift over to the adjacent room. In there, you’ll come across the Mountaincleaver, which is situated close to a skeleton on a bed.
