According to World of Reel’s report, during a talk at The Gibbles Museum of Art on October 15, 2024, as the keynote speaker for their Distinguished Lecture Series, Lee announced that the movie “Highest 2 Lowest” is planned for release in summer 2025. Contrary to initial speculation, he explained that instead of being a remake, the film will serve as a contemporary retelling for today’s audience. The production of this project is under A24 and Apple Studios, with Alan Fox and Lee handling the screenwriting duties.
Lee, who admires Washington’s exceptional skills, decided to cast the renowned actor for his rendition of Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller in English. This selection might be due to their long-standing and successful collaboration, which has lasted through five films during their illustrious careers, encompassing “Mo Better Blues,” “He Got Game,” “Inside Man,” and “Malcolm X.
