Contrary to initial speculation, he explained that instead of being a remake, the film will serve as a contemporary retelling for today’s audience. The production of this project is under A24 and Apple Studios, with Alan Fox and Lee handling the screenwriting duties.

Lee, who admires Washington’s exceptional skills, decided to cast the renowned actor for his rendition of Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller in English.
