Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

As a seasoned viewer of crime dramas, I must say that the cast assembled for “Cross” is nothing short of impressive. Each actor brings a unique depth and richness to their roles, making this series a must-watch for any fan of the genre.

On November 14, 2024, “Cross” will make its debut on Amazon Prime Video. This new series is an adaptation of James Patterson’s fictional detective, focusing on Alex Cross (played by Aldis Hodge). As a talented forensic expert and criminal psychologist, Alex Cross delves into the intricate workings of the minds of those he apprehends to unravel the mysteries behind their violent actions.

In the critically panned films “Kiss the Girls,” “Along Came a Spider,” and “Alex Cross,” Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry initially played the character, but it was Aldis Hodge who eventually restored the character’s good name in the television adaptation. Viewers tuning into Prime Video to see how accurately the series adapts Patterson’s well-loved source novels will notice a talented supporting cast from various recent movies and TV productions. Here are the cast members and characters appearing in “Cross.

Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross

Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

In the newly released Amazon Prime Video series, Aldis Hodge takes on the role of the main character, Alex Cross, from the renowned novel series by James Patterson. First introduced in 1993 and continuing today, Alex Cross is a top-tier investigator with expertise in forensic psychology based in Washington, D.C. He often pushes the boundaries of morality and sanity as he delves into the minds of serial killers and other brutal criminals to comprehend their motives. In this series, the stakes are raised when Alex seeks justice for the murder of his wife Maria (Chaunteé Schuler Irving).

Since 1995, Hodge has amassed close to 90 acting credits across various platforms. Many recognize him from his starring role as Alec Hardison in the successful TV series Leverage, which aired from 2008 to 2012. Beyond Leverage, Hodge’s television work spans shows like Leverage: Redemption, City on a Hill, Underground, Black Mirror, and more. In film, he has been seen in The Invisible Man, Black Adam, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, and will soon appear in Dutchman.

Isaiah Mustafa as John Sampson

Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

I play the character John Sampson in the film ‘Cross’. Growing up, John was raised by my grandmother after his parents passed away. As we grew older, Alex and I became detective partners for the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI. Previously, Bill Nunn and Edward Burns brought John Sampson to life in the movie adaptations of ‘Kiss the Girls’ and ‘Alex Cross’.

Mustafa kick-started his acting journey in Michael Bay’s film “The Island” back in 2005, and since then, he has accumulated around 50 roles across movies and television shows. Many viewers are familiar with Mustafa from his role as Luke Garroway on the series “Shadowhunters,” which aired for 55 episodes between 2016 and 2019. His other notable appearances include “It Chapter Two,” “Boy Kills World,” “Murder at Yellowstone City,” “Black-ish,” “Nikita,” and “Grey’s Anatomy” among others.

Jennifer Wigmore as Chief Anderson

Jennifer Wigmore, a Canadian actress, assumes the role of Chief Anderson, who heads the Washington D.C. Police Department, in the movie ‘Alex Cross’. During the film, she assigns Alex Cross and Sampson to handle numerous criminal cases across the D.C. Metro area. However, upon Alex’s request, Chief Anderson reconsiders an apparent drug overdose case of a man named Emir Goodspeed (Donovan Brown), as she suspects it might be a murder instead.

Following her notable role as Kayla in the critically-acclaimed film “Dream Scenario” with Nicolas Cage, audiences can catch Wigmore in a variety of projects such as “I Was a Sixth Grade Alien”, “Designated Survivor”, “Heartland”, and “Y: The Last Man Standing”. Notably, Wigmore has also appeared in two holiday movies reminiscent of Hallmark productions, including “A Cozy Christmas Quilt” and “Christmas at the Drive-In”.

Juanita Jennings as Regina Cross

Juanita Jennings portrays the character of Regina “Mama Nana” Cross, who is a loving and protective live-in grandmother to Alex. After the heartbreaking demise of Alex’s wife in the series premiere, Mama Nana provides emotional support to Alex while taking care of his young children, Damon (Caleb Elijah) and Janelle (Melody Hurd). Mama Nana serves as a source of confidence for Alex, encouraging him and believing in him despite his mistakes, which helps him maintain hope during difficult times.

As a seasoned actor with over a century of credits under my belt, I’m no stranger to the silver and small screens. You’ve likely seen me in my memorable role as Edna Barnes from the long-running sitcom “Meet the Browns.” On TV, I’ve graced numerous shows such as “Star,” “Pearson,” “David Makes Man,” “Lincoln Heights,” “Shameless,” “Chicago Hope,” and “Detroiters.” Recently, I had the privilege of working alongside Andra Day and Glenn Close in Lee Daniels’ chilling Netflix film, “The Deliverance,” on the big screen.

Sharon Taylor as Oracene Massey

Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to see Canadian actress Sharon Taylor bring Lieutenant Oracene Massey to life in the movie “Alex Cross.” Working alongside Chief Anderson, Massey assists Cross in probing the tragic demise of Black Lives Matter activist Emir Goodspeed. Initially, they label it a drug overdose, but Alex Cross isn’t convinced and persuades them to let him dig deeper to uncover the real culprit. Interestingly, Karen LeBlanc, who was initially cast as Lieutenant Massey, had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts, with Sharon Taylor stepping into the role instead.

Taylor, with over two decades of experience, is a versatile actor who has made appearances in various movies and TV shows, ranging from “Bad Blood” and “Bellvue” to “Ghost Wars” and “The 100”. In addition, Taylor has had short roles on “Smallville”, “Altered Carbon”, “Fringe”, “Riverdale”, “See”, “Big Sky”, “The X-Files”, and “Supernatural”. Recently, Taylor was seen in “The Good Doctor”, “Fire Country”, and portrayed another police officer in “Dead Boy Detectives”.

Samantha Walkes as Elle Monteiro

In the series “Cross,” Samantha Walkes portrays the character of Elle Monteiro. A year after Maria’s heart-wrenching demise, the plot progresses, focusing on Alex’s challenges in navigating single parenthood. Elle Monteiro enters as Alex’s new romantic interest, providing emotional support to help him cope with his grief and envision a brighter future. Given that she is one of the few characters who shares Alex’s vulnerabilities, Elle significantly impacts the narrative, despite being a creation not found in the original Patterson novels.

Since 2016, Walkes has accumulated 13 credits by appearing in various TV shows including “The Kings of Napa”, “Murdoch Mysteries”, “The Changeling”, and “The Big Cigar”. She’s also made guest appearances on “Jane”, “Good Sam”, and “Hudson Rex”. While many may recognize Walkes as Dr. Segar from the movie “Orphan: First Kill”, she has also starred in lighter, festive films like “Santa’s Castle” and “The Holiday Swap”.

Ryan Eggold as Ed Ramsey

Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

Ryan Eggold portrays the character of Ed Ramsey in the series ‘Cross’. Ed is a wealthy socialite from Washington D.C., who mingles with the city’s high-ranking politicians and affluent social influencers. As Cross delves into the murder of Emir, he encounters the flamboyant DC playboy, Ramsey. Although it’s uncertain how deeply Ramsey is implicated in the central crime, his initial on-screen presence suggests that he might be concealing more than what meets the eye.

Recently, Ryan Eggold has wrapped up his memorable portrayal of the virtuous doctor Max Goodwin in the acclaimed medical series “New Amsterdam,” a role he played for 89 episodes from 2018 to 2022. Naturally, viewers will also recall Eggold’s performance as Tom Keen in “The Blacklist.” Boasting impressive roles in films like “BlacKKKlansman,” “A Jazzman’s Blues,” “Love Song,” “Fathers & Daughters,” and “Battle Scars,” among others, Eggold is poised for even greater success.

Johnny Ray Gill as Bobby Trey

Where You've Seen the Cast of Cross Before

In the series titled “Cross,” Johnny Ray Gill embodies the character Bobby Trey. Alex, a former officer with an unpredictable nature considered a hindrance, is the focus. This ex-detective assists Alex in gathering street evidence to uncover the murderer of Maria and Emir. Although his screen time is limited, Bobby leaves an impact and there’s potential for him to appear more frequently. With Season 2 confirmed, viewers can anticipate seeing more of Bobby Trey.

In 2011, Gill started his acting career on the TV show “Harry’s Law”. Since then, he has been featured in various series such as “Bones”, “True Blood”, “BrainDead”, “Underground”, “Snowfall”, “Chicago P.D.”, “Rectify”, and “NCIS”. Notably, Gill also appeared in the movies “Opening Night” and “Rollers”. Gaming enthusiasts might recognize his voice as the Local Population in “Grand Theft Auto V” and “Red Dead Redemption II”.
