As a devoted fan of Bollywood, I have always been captivated by the enigmatic and tragic tale of Kabir Bedi and Parveen Babi. Their love story, fraught with struggle and heartbreak, is one that resonates deeply with me, much like the melodious tunes of their iconic songs echo in my heart.
Kabir Bedi’s romantic involvement with Parveen Babi started around the same period when his marriage to Protima was concluding. At this point, Parveen was grappling with mental health challenges. However, contrary to rumors, it was Parveen who chose to end their relationship, as she worried that Kabir might encourage her to seek help for her worsening mental state.
In a conversation with Digital Commentary, Kabir Bedi reminisced about the early stages of his career, when his television show Sandokan brought him international acclaim. He spoke fondly of times spent with Parveen Babi and detailed how she accompanied him on trips to Italy and then London. During their time together in London, he observed a decline in her health. Worried, he suggested she seek medical attention, but she declined. In the end, her decision not to receive treatment ultimately led to them going separate ways.
Reflecting on the unfortunate demise of our shared bond, it all stemmed from my observations after our relocation from Italy to London. It became increasingly apparent that her wellbeing wasn’t thriving as it should have been.
Instead of the general belief, Kabir clarified that it was actually Parveen who chose to end their relationship, not him. He added that she decided to leave due to apprehensions about him pressuring her into seeking treatment. In simpler words, he expressed, “She left me out of fear that I would make her undergo treatment.
Her suspicion caused her to hesitate about seeking medical help, believing it could negatively impact her job.
The actor explained that reports linking his breakup to Parveen’s mental health troubles were unfounded. He pointed out that it was the media who erroneously accused him of rejecting Parveen and contributing to her distress. However, he stressed that Parveen had been battling mental health issues well before their relationship terminated.
Actor from Khoon Bhari Maang conveyed his profound sorrow over Parveen’s untimely demise, explaining how it had a profound impact on him. Furthermore, he disclosed that her funeral in 2005 was graced by three of her past companions—himself, Mahesh Bhatt, and Danny Denzongpa.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Parveen Babi was a well-known actress in Bollywood, known for powerful performances in movies like Deewaar and Majboor. However, she encountered numerous mental health issues, including being identified with schizophrenia towards the end of the 70s, which brought about personal hardships throughout her lifespan.
