As a seasoned gamer and fashion enthusiast with a penchant for the unconventional, I must say that the upcoming AVAVAV x adidas Originals collection has piqued my interest like no other collaboration has in recent memory. Having grown up idolizing both brands, the prospect of seeing them collide in such a playful and subversive manner is nothing short of exhilarating.
During Milan Fashion Week in September, Beate Karlsson’s brand AVAVAV unveiled a wide-ranging partnership with adidas Originals. Known for its playful antics, the AVAVAV label cleverly reinterpreted adidas’s classic symbols using their signature twists. The collection, filled with innovative ideas, optical illusions, and groundbreaking designs, is soon to be available in stores worldwide.
In an atmosphere reminiscent of a racetrack, the runway showcasing adidas Originals at AVAVAVification was quite intriguing: Trench coats were fashioned shorter, puffer jackets oversized, and avant-garde tops with fitted hoods were perfect for a night out in Berlin. Some models surprised spectators by sporting adidas track jackets that appeared to be painted directly onto their bodies. Meanwhile, the iconic Superstar sneaker was reimagined, featuring AVAVAV’s four-finger motif on its shell toe, and caps and hats were adorned with finger-shaped cutouts or a twist on the classic Three Stripes design by Karlsson.
During the event, Karlsson expressed her delight at long-held aspiration to collaborate with the sportswear titan. She gleefully stated, “I’m thrilled and overjoyed to get a chance to experiment with their robust heritage—it’s such an enjoyable experience.” She further added, “From the onset of our partnership, I was motivated to playfully push the boundaries of adidas. There’s a fascinating irony in our approach towards sports and fashion, and finding humor while maintaining a serious demeanor during this exploration has been incredibly entertaining.
Before unveiling the collection, AVAVAV has organized a campaign named “The Least Athletic Football Game You Can Imagine,” featuring models donning the latest apparel as they engage in an unconventional and somewhat amusing football game, showcasing the irony Karlsson often discusses.
