As a gamer who’s been with the Pokémon franchise since the GameBoy days, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and anticipation as Nintendo prepares to unveil more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The journey from single-colored towns to open-world gameplay has been quite a ride!
Since its debut on GameBoy in 1996, Nintendo has continuously developed the Pokémon franchise. From simple, single-colored towns to expansive open-world gameplay, Pokémon enthusiasts eagerly anticipate what Nintendo will reveal about the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet mark their second anniversary today.
On the 18th of November, 2022, I jumped into the expansive world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, where an entire continent named Paldea awaited me in an open-world setting – a first for the franchise!
In the realm of gaming, I’ve been diving deep into the vibrant world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike my previous adventures with Pokémon Sword and Shield where we were first introduced to the Wild Area, these new titles offer a unique twist – distinct storylines that players can journey through as they traverse this expansive open-world map.
Despite incorporating innovative elements like a companion Legendary Pokemon, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet received lower scores than any other Pokemon games on Metacritic. This indicates that as the franchise developed under Nintendo, it may have drifted excessively away from the aspects that made the earlier games so appealing.
Regardless, enthusiasts of Pokémon across Reddit are commemorating the second anniversary of the more recent versions, expressing appreciation for the intricate character narratives found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
For those newcomer gamers discovering the world of Pokémon through Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it feels like just yesterday when they stepped into this universe for the first time. Amazingly, it’s been two years already!
Experienced gamers often share stories about their initial Pokémon games, and as we’re running short on fresh main series releases, it seems like Nintendo should reveal more information about the forthcoming Pokémon games rather sooner than later.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet might receive lower ratings compared to other Pokémon series titles from both critics and players, yet the potential backward compatibility of the upcoming Switch 2 could compensate for any shortcomings caused by hardware limitations in these games.
It’s possible that another open-world game like Pokémon Legends: Z-A could appear, given it’s set in the Kalos region. We here at Gfinity are eager to see how Nintendo refashions the classic Pokémon titles, especially since the HD-2D visuals in the latest Square Enix games have done a great job of preserving the appeal and nostalgia of older games.
