As a die-hard fan of quality television, I can confidently say that the hiring of Alex Weinberger by Amazon MGM Studios is a masterstroke! With her extensive 21-year tenure at Disney under her belt, where she played a pivotal role in nurturing Shondaland’s iconic series like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, I am thrilled to see what she will bring to the table for Amazon MGM.
To oversee the development of young adult and comedy series past their initial seasons, Amazon MGM Studios is hiring a new executive.
Alex Weinberger has been brought onboard the studio in a leadership role, overseeing youth adult (YA) and comedy ongoing series. Together with her team, she’ll be managing shows such as the upcoming revival of “Cruel Intentions” and “We Were Liars,” along with “Motorheads,” “Off Campus,” “Every Year After,” “Overcompensating,” and other series potentially progressing to second seasons (some of these titles have not yet received official approval for a second season). Weinberger will be working under Laura Lancaster, the head of co-production television and ongoing series at Amazon MGM Studios.
Weinberger boasts a long history of collaborating on continuous TV shows. For over two decades, she was part of Disney, serving as a senior executive for current programming at ABC Studios. During this tenure, she had the unique responsibility of supervising numerous productions from Shondaland, such as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice, and Station 19. Moreover, she spearheaded comedy series development and current roles at Touchstone Television, which was an early forerunner of ABC Studios, and kick-started her career in the current programming department of ABC.
Before his tenure at Amazon MGM, Weinberger served as a podcast producer and creative advisor for Dear Media’s empowerment series titled “Coming in Hot“.
