As a die-hard fan of Rajkumar Hirani’s cinematic genius, I can confidently say that his storytelling prowess has not only captivated millions but also left an indelible mark on the Indian film industry. His ability to blend poignant social messages with entertainment is truly unparalleled.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is undeniably one of the most gifted storytellers Bollywood has ever seen. His unique ability to combine powerful narratives with entertainment is evident in many iconic movies. Today, November 19, 2024, marks his 62nd birthday, a day we celebrate this legendary director’s contributions to Indian cinema. In honor of this special occasion, let’s revisit an old chat where Ranbir Kapoor shared the story of how his father and the late actor Rishi Kapoor helped him secure a role in Sanju.
Previously, Ranbir Kapoor shared in an interview with Mid-day that he looked back on how his father, Rishi Kapoor, helped him secure a role in Rajkumar Hirani’s film “Sanju.” He explained that it was some time ago when his father had met Hirani’s mother, following the release of Hirani’s second movie, “Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
He shared that his father, who’s also an accomplished actor, had tripped but managed to land gracefully, and said, “Your boy is exceptionally talented, and I’m hoping my son and your son will collaborate someday.
During the same discussion, the actor from the Ramayana confessed that he found it difficult to talk directly to his father about his public temper tantrums and instead chose to communicate with him indirectly through his mother, Neetu Kapoor. He also shared that he felt sorry for director Anurag Basu and composer Pritam as they had to deal with his father’s anger following the failure of Jagga Jasoos.
I, an ardent admirer, was overjoyed when the illustrious director, Rajkumar Hirani, chose to feature Ranbir Kapoor in a cameo for his blockbuster movie, PK, starring the unparalleled Aamir Khan. This collaboration then blossomed into a beautiful partnership in 2018, as they joined forces once more to bring us Sanju, a captivating biographical-drama that delved into the life of the legendary Sanjay Dutt.
Last year, during a conversation with the previously mentioned publication, Hirani was inquired about the possibility of working with Ranbir again. In his response, the director affectionately referred to him as an “utter delight” and reminisced fondly about their time together on Sanju. He expressed his confidence in future collaborations with Ranbir.
He shared that he has several scripts currently, and he’s maintaining contact with them. He added that sometimes when you focus on a specific script, it doesn’t work out, and you move onto another one which turns into something successful. In closing, he expressed his fondness for Ranbir, saying “Yes, I do like Ranbir (smilingly),” he concluded.
In more conversational terms, the last project directed by Rajkumar Hirani was a film titled “Dunki” that featured Shah Rukh Khan and came out in December of the previous year.
