As a seasoned adventurer who’s seen more than my fair share of dungeons and dragons, the allure of ruling over a kingdom was initially tempting. The thought of donning regal attire and commanding respect from the townspeople seemed enticing. However, after experiencing the monotony of governing Romaria, I’ve come to realize that being a ruler isn’t as glamorous as it seems.

Ever pondered over the concept of ruling a realm? The Dragon Quest 3 Remake presents an opportunity for you to ascend the throne as royalty instead.

Instead of living a life as a king adorned with a crown, the allure of being a roaming adventurer may yet captivate you.

This article helps you abandon the crown and reclaim your role as a hero.

How to Become King or Queen of Romaria

While embarking on your exciting journey, you’ll take on a task to retrieve the King’s Crown that has been stolen by Robin Goodman in Skyfell Tower.

Recover the crown from the bandit and deliver it to the King of Romaria.

Moved by your courage, an unexpected turn of events occurs as the King abdicates his throne and designates you as the new monarch of Romaria.

As King or Queen, you’ll don regal attire, and the townspeople will react to you differently.

But with your new royal status, you cannot cross some boundaries.

You can no longer leave the city; your team is untraceable, and your quest has hit a dead end.

Ruling isn’t ideal for a hero meant to save the world.

How to Stop Being King or Queen

To relinquish your royal duties, you need to locate the previous king, who’s been absent, presumably engaged in his keen interest in gaming and wagering.

Speak with NPCs around the castle and town to gather hints about his whereabouts.

They’ll give a hint that he’s located at the Monster Arena, which is situated deep below the shop district of Romaria, specifically in the basement housing the items and weapons stores.

Use the Slime icon on the map to guide you to the entrance.

As soon as you step into the Monster Arena, walk beyond the Bank and the information counter. After that, make your way towards the staircase which leads you to the seating section.

Head to the left side of the stands, where the former king is watching the arena’s events.

You could approach the man who appears to be just another spectator among the crowd, but he might actually be the former king. Initiate a chat with him.

He’ll ask a couple of questions to confirm your choice:

  • Q1: “Ah, but do not let our kingdom fall into ruins, now! How goes the governing, anyway? Is the throne to your liking?”
    • Respond with “No.”
  • Q2: “You no longer wish to be King/Queen of this fair land?”
    • Respond with “Yes.”

After our chat concludes, a short scene unfolds where the previous monarch retakes the throne and resumes his royal duties. Meanwhile, you carry on living as a valiant hero.

With your party back together, it’s time for you to leave Romaria and proceed on your journey to vanquish the wicked powers threatening us.

If you ever feel like ruling again, you can return to the former king and reclaim the throne.

He’ll be more than willing, and the process of taking the crown will repeat.
