As a horror enthusiast who has witnessed the rise of some truly remarkable talents in recent years, I can confidently say that Samara Weaving is undeniably this decade’s hottest scream queen! Her journey from the small screen to the silver screen has been nothing short of electrifying, with each role she takes on only solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with.
Following the triumph of this year’s adaptation of Speak No Evil, it’s been announced that another recently premiered international horror movie is due for an American adaptation. According to Variety, Tommy Wirkola’s 2021 Norwegian horror film The Trip is being lined up for an English-language remake, with Jorma Taccone (MacGruber, Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping) at the helm. Excitingly, horror sensation Samara Weaving will lead the new project, with Jason Segel, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis also starring.
The screenplay for this project is being revamped by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, with the director of “Violent Night” joining as a producer. Joining them are Kelly McCormick (known for “The Fall Guy” and “Bullet Train”), Lee Kim (“Dual” and “Get Away”), and Guy Danella (“Violent Night” and “Love Hurts”). The narrative revolves around Weaving and Segel, who travel to a secluded cabin to work on their relationship. Unbeknownst to each other, they both have sinister intentions – to harm the other. However, things take a dangerous turn when a real pair of assassins (portrayed by Olyphant and Lewis) arrive, leading to a violent and chaotic situation.
2022’s Christmas action-thriller “Violent Night,” directed by Wirkola and featuring David Harbour from “Stranger Things,” was a massive success with both critics and audiences, raking in $76 million at the box office on a budget of $20 million. He’s eagerly anticipating Taccone’s work with his Norwegian hit, which currently boasts an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
I’m absolutely thrilled about Jorma’s unique touch gracing the material. With such a stellar cast involved, I can hardly contain my anticipation that this movie will undoubtedly be a distinctive gem in the world of cinema.
Samara Weaving Is This Decade’s Hottest Scream Queen
Starting with her role in the BBC series “Out of the Blue” in 2008, Weaving has gained significant popularity among horror enthusiasts more recently due to several prominent appearances. Her stardom was further amplified in 2015 by her role in “Ash vs Evil Dead,” and in 2017’s “The Babysitter,” where she played Bee, the head of a satanic cult.
It was actually the 2019 movie “Ready or Not” that brought Samara Weaving into the spotlight and garnered numerous award nominations for her. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, this film showcased Weaving’s versatility as an actress, transitioning from a sweet bride to a tough final girl. The iconic scene of her dripping in blood, dressed in tattered wedding attire, left a lasting impression on us all.
She’ll team up again with the directing duo for 2023’s “Scream 6”, and this very year she starred as the lead in the action horror film “Azrael”, further solidifying her status as one of the most popular scream queens of this decade. Some may wonder about remaking a movie that’s merely three years old, but it seems to have been successful with this year’s “Speak No Evil”, which was a modern take on the 2022 Danish film of the same name. Our advice is to relax and let things unfold, because with Weaving involved, you can expect “The Trip” to be an exciting viewing experience.
