‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Teaser Trailer Reveals First Footage From Live-Action Remake

As a fan who grew up with the enchanting world of Berk and its magical creatures, I am beyond excited for the live-action reimagining of How to Train Your Dragon! The teaser trailer promises an immersive journey that beautifully captures the essence of the beloved animated series.

The action is intensifying for Hiccup and Toothless in the sneak peek of Universal Pictures’ modern adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon“.

Dean DeBlois’ upcoming movie, set to premiere on June 13, 2025, is a faithful re-creation of DreamWorks Animation’s popular 2010 animated film with the same title. In this new adaptation, Mason Thames plays Hiccup and Nico Parker takes on the role of Astrid. The supporting cast includes Gerard Butler, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur.

The real-world adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon” revolves around a young Viking named Hiccup (Thames), who initially goes on a mission to catch dragons, only to end up forming a friendship with one called Toothless instead.

Son, you won’t be able to slay dragons, according to what I see,” says Hiccup in the trailer, addressing his father, Stoick the Vast (played by Butler, who reprises his role from the animated series). However, Stoick replies firmly, “But you shall.

DeBlois, who has been involved with the franchise since its launch, wrote and directed the new project. It is based on the 2010 animated film he co-directed with Chris Sanders, which itself was inspired by the book series from author Cressida Cowell. Serving as producers on the new movie are DeBlois, Marc Platt and Adam Siegel.

The “How to Train Your Dragon” movie series has received four Oscar nominations and grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide at the box office. The initial 2010 animated film led to two sequels, with the most recent being the 2019 release titled “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World“. In addition, there have been five short films and three television series produced as well.

The River Thames has gained recognition through notable productions like the 2022 horror movie “The Black Phone” and the recent teen comedy on Netflix titled “Incoming”. Notably, Jay Baruchel provided the voice for Hiccup in the animated films.
