I'm Stressed About Chicago P.D.'s Fall Finale, But Toya Turner's BTS Stories About The Cast Welcoming Her Are So Sweet

As a gamer with an uncanny knack for predicting plot twists and character arcs in TV shows, I must admit that my anticipation for Chicago P.D.’s fall finale is through the roof. The cliffhanger with Officer Kiana Cook’s life hanging in the balance has me on edge, and the tight-lipped silence from the producers only fuels my curiosity.

The last episode of Chicago P.D. in its 2024 TV lineup before transitioning to the 2025 schedule is shaping up to be a nerve-wracking and tense experience, following the heartbreaking cliffhanger that has Torres’ life hanging by a thread. It remains unclear if she will make it through the fall finale without injury, but on the bright side, new cast member Toya Turner shares delightful anecdotes about her journey joining the show and the well-known cast.

A significant portion of the cast on the series “Chicago P.D.” have been part of the show since its debut. Actors such as Jason Beghe, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Patrick John Flueger, and Amy Platt have appeared in every season. Benjamin Levy Aguilar joined as Torres from Season 9 onwards. During an interview before the fall finale of “New Amsterdam,” actress Toya Turner discussed her experience joining a cast that has essentially been together for over ten years. She shared her thoughts on this, stating:

On my part, joining this group is reminiscent of a newborn baby taking its first dive into the pool, but what has truly elevated the experience is the warm and inclusive welcome I’ve received. It feels as though I’ve been part of this family for close to three years now, given how welcoming, inviting, and supportive everyone has been towards me. LaRoyce even assisted me in choosing a couch, which makes us feel like we’re already one big happy family. This sense of belonging is incredibly heartwarming, and I can’t help but appreciate the ease with which they’ve made me feel supported.

Previously, it was mentioned that Cook’s strongest relationships were with Torres and Ruzek on screen, but it seems like the whole cast has embraced me heartily off-camera. They even chipped in to help me choose a couch, with LaRoyce Hawkins lending a hand! After Chicago P.D. underwent significant changes with Jesse Lee Soffer’s departure as Halstead in Season 10 and Tracy Spiridakos leaving as Upton in Season 11, it’s comforting to know that the cast has been so welcoming in integrating a new face into the team.

Interestingly enough, Toya Turner hails from the bustling city of Chicago, yet she filmed the series New Amsterdam right here in New York City. Now that she’s shooting on location back in her hometown, one might wonder what that feels like for her. The actress herself has expressed:

This moment is incredibly special for me as I’m surrounded by my mom, aunt, brothers, niece, her newborn, and my best friend. It’s as if we’ve stepped back into our old selves, just like the bond we shared when I was three years old. The ties between us have grown even stronger, making this time truly wonderful. Chicago has always been a place where I dreamed of working on something like this, and it feels great to finally be here.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Kiana Cook on Chicago P.D. won’t meet an unfortunate end in the fall finale, as Turner is really enjoying portraying her character! However, the preview for the episode doesn’t provide any reassurance since it doesn’t show Kiana at all. Instead, many characters appear to be quite worried about the situation.

Given that everyone might soon discover Torres’ past involvement with Gloria, it’s not surprising to see their less-than-cheerful expressions. Let me show you:

On Wednesday, November 20th at 10 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), the fall finale of “Chicago P.D.” titled “Penance” will be broadcast on NBC. As usual, “Chicago Fire” airs before it at 9 p.m. ET, followed by “Chicago Med” at 8 p.m. ET. If you can’t watch it live, don’t worry! You can stream the latest episodes every Thursday on Peacock, and also catch up on all previously aired seasons so far.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to reports, NBC is set to bring us the first three-part One Chicago crossover since 2019’s “Infection” series! This promising development promises an exciting start to the new year for all of us fans.
