As a dedicated Star Wars enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that our beloved animated anthology series, Star Wars: Visions, is gearing up for a third volume in 2025! This exciting news was unveiled on the first day of Disney‘s two-day Content Showcase event in Singapore. Can’t wait to see what incredible tales and stunning visuals await us in the next chapter!
In the third installment of “Visions,” we’ll be traveling back to Japan, featuring 9 fresh animated shorts produced by some of Japan’s top-tier animation studios such as David Production, Production I.G., Trigger, Kinema Citrus, and Kamikaze Douga.
As a passionate Star Wars gamer, I was thrilled when Visions made its debut in 2021. This wasn’t your typical Star Wars production; it was a daring venture by Lucasfilm. Instead of the usual canon tales, we got a compilation of animated shorts from various Japanese animation studios, each with their unique animation styles. The freedom to explore without restrictions led to some breathtakingly imaginative takes on the Star Wars universe that resonated deeply with both fans and critics.
The inaugural season of the series “Visions” made its premiere on Disney+ in September 2021. This season consisted of nine episodes, each contributed by various Japanese animation studios such as Kamikaze Douga, Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Production I.G., and Science Saru. Volume one was warmly received by critics, earning a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81% score on Metacritic.
In May 2023, the second installment of “Visions” was debuted on Disney+. This volume showcased productions from a diverse range of global studios such as Aardman (U.K.), El Guiri (Spain), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Punkrobot (Chile), Studio Mir (South Korea), Studio La Cachette (France), 88 Pictures (India), D’art Shtajio (Japan), Lucasfilm (U.S.), and Triggerfish (South Africa/Ireland). Critics absolutely loved it, giving it a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 88% on Metacritic.
