As a gamer with a soft spot for gripping crime dramas, the trailer for Apple TV+’s Dope Thief has me hooked! The star-studded cast, led by Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura, promises an exhilarating ride through the underbelly of Philadelphia’s drug scene.
Apple TV+’s highly-anticipated drug ring drama, titled “Dope Thief,” will make its global premiere on March 14, and here’s a sneak peek at the talented cast who bring this story to life.
Brian Tyree Henry, previously seen in Narcos, and Wagner Moura portray two old friends from Philadelphia with a history of mischief who pretend to be DEA agents to pull off a home robbery in the countryside. However, their small-time heist escalates into a matter of life and death when they accidentally expose and unravel one of the largest undetected drug trafficking routes along the Eastern seaboard without realizing it.
Henry acts as Ray, while Moura portrays Manny Cespedes – friends who initially became acquainted during their shared time in a youth detention facility. Previously, Moura stepped into the role of Manny Cespedes after Michael Mando, who was previously associated with Better Call Saul.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to dive into the eight-episode crime drama that’s been crafted by Peter Craig. This series marks my first venture into television, and it’s being brought to life under the guidance of not just one but two industry giants – Peter Craig himself and Ridley Scott. The latter is not only overseeing the production but also directing the premiere episode as part of a partnership between Scott Free and Apple Studios.
The principal actors of “Dope Thief” are Marin Ireland, Kate Mulgrew, Nesta Cooper, Amir Arison, and Ving Rhames. Additionally, Oscar-nominated individual Henry is involved in the production as an executive producer.
Beginning March 14, the first two installments of the series “Dope Thief” will premiere on Apple TV+. Subsequent episodes will be released every Friday until April 25. This gripping drama about a drug ring is adapted from Dennis Tafoya’s book “Dope Thief,” which was previously known as “Sinking Spring.
