As a long-time Simpsons enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of Springfield since its humble beginnings, I can’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia as Pamela Hayden, the voice behind Milhouse Van Houten and many other beloved characters, bids farewell to the series. Her contributions have been instrumental in shaping the fabric of this iconic town, and her departure leaves a void that will be hard to fill.
A long-time Simpsons voice actor is retiring.
Over the course of 35 years, Pamela Hayden, who lends her voice to Bart’s friend Milhouse Van Houten (and numerous other characters), is leaving the enduring Fox series “The Simpsons.” As of now, she has been recognized for contributing to approximately 690 out of the 774 episodes that have aired so far.
Apart from Milhouse, Hayden lends his voice to a variety of characters including Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders (as well as his sibling Todd on occasion), Malibu Stacy, Lisa’s friend Janey, and numerous other recurring and occasional characters in the series.
Hayden has announced it’s time for him to retire his microphone, but finding the right words to bid farewell to ‘The Simpsons’ isn’t straightforward. He’s shared his feelings in a statement, expressing that working on this hilarious, intelligent, and trailblazing show has been an immense privilege. Bart Simpson, the blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses, will forever hold a special spot in his heart.
Milhouse made his debut in a Butterfinger commercial back in 1989, during the time when “The Simpsons” were just a collection of short episodes airing on “The Tracey Ullman Show”. He’s been a part of the show since its initial episode titled “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”.
Matt Selman, the showrunner and executive producer, praised Pamela for her exceptional talent, enthusiasm, and affection towards her characters in ‘The Simpsons.’ He mentioned that she has brought a unique magic to the series that will forever be remembered. Essentially, he was saying ‘Everything’s going great for Pamela!’
Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, remarked, “Pamela brought countless laughs to us through Milhouse, the endearingly awkward kid with an oversized nose in Springfield. She breathed life and humor into Milhouse’s character, and we will surely miss her.” James L. Brooks, the executive producer, added, “She was a shining example of a wonderful spirit for every cast she graced. We will deeply mourn her passing.
In the upcoming period, The Simpsons team will commence the process of selecting actors for Hayden’s roles. Here is a salute to Hayden’s contributions to the series:
