Selena Gomez Explained Why She Has Gone Into Auditions Without Using Her Real Name, And Her Reasoning Makes Sense

As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating virtual worlds and overcoming challenges, I find Selena Gomez‘s journey in Hollywood to be remarkably similar. She faces her own set of obstacles, but with unwavering determination and a strategic mindset, she continues to thrive.

It’s intriguing to learn that Selena Gomez has had a packed year ahead, with significant roles slated for our 2024 TV lineup (specifically “Only Murders in the Building”) and our 2024 movie schedule (“Emilia Pérez”). Moreover, she’s also planned to make an appearance on our 2025 TV schedule, as part of the fifth season of the popular Hulu series. However, it’s surprising to find out that during auditions, she doesn’t use her real name. While the rationale behind this action seems logical.

The actress who starred in “Hotel Transylvania” recently had a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, discussing her recent achievements and upcoming projects. Interestingly, she mentioned that sometimes she doesn’t reveal her real name during auditions to increase her chances of being judged fairly without any preconceived notions. About this process, she commented:

Well, if they think I’m too young for a part, or whatever the case may be, we use a tactic where we don’t tell them it’s me auditioning so that they just have to accept me auditioning. Because sometimes even them just hearing that I want to audition, they’ll be like, ‘No, that’s not going to match for what we’re doing.’ Or it’s, ‘We’re going to hire people that nobody knows,’ and then they hire, like, Austin Butler, and I’m like, ‘Cool.’ But I’m not angry, it’s the position I have and it’s OK. It just means I’m going to continue to do things that are hopefully compelling and different.

Gomez maintains a commendable viewpoint regarding the situation, though it adds complexity to her pursuit of acting roles. This dedication to professional development, however, only serves to deepen my admiration for her in the entertainment industry.

The main character from “Only Murders in the Building” additionally disclosed that her representatives are part of the scheme for both pre-recorded and live tryouts, and this strategy has proven successful. She divulged:

Occasionally, I submit a recording anonymously, or when meeting in person, my superiors might react with surprise, such as “Oh, we have a client that’ll have a read.” Usually, they respond with “OK,” and it did work for me on one film project, titled Fundamentals of Caring, starring Paul Rudd. I managed to secure the role despite their initial shock. It’s all about playing the game tactfully.

It’s heartening to see her successfully navigate past conventional assumptions, initial rejections, and most significantly, demonstrate self-assuredness in pursuing her goals.

It’s delightful to observe that the triple threat has not only mastered navigating Hollywood but also serves as a mentor for upcoming professionals. In fact, the star of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” Janice Leann Brown, mentioned that this veteran had some genuinely helpful advice for her regarding self-discovery in the industry.

Maybe she developed this viewpoint during her unconventional journey following Disney, and right in the midst of filming Harmony Korine’s movie titled Spring Breakers.

Whenever she developed this understanding, it’s wonderful to observe how she’s paving the path towards a more diverse acting scene for upcoming artists. As Gomez progresses in her Hollywood career and tackles fresh roles, let’s hope the audition process becomes less cumbersome for her. For now, I’m pleased that she’s discovered a method that suits her.

To enjoy the series “Only Murders in the Building”, you’ll need a Hulu subscription, while streaming the latest film of Emilia Pérez is possible with a Netflix subscription.
