As a seasoned gamer with an unquenchable thirst for unique narratives and captivating visuals, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming second season of “Moving.” Having dabbled in Korean webtoons and their adaptations, I can attest to the rich storytelling that Kang Full brings to the table. The fact that this series has been Disney+ and Hulu’s number one local original title globally is a testament to its quality.
As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I’ve learned about the upcoming second season of the captivating Korean sci-fi fantasy series, “Moving,” straight from Disney+ during their Asia Pacific Content Showcase in Singapore!
The announcement concerning the second season of “Moving” was made by Carol Choi, who holds the position of executive vice president for original content strategy within APAC at Disney. However, specifics about release dates and the cast were not disclosed. Notably, Kang Full, the series creator and a well-respected Korean artist, will be partaking in the production of season two.
The show, debuting in August 2023, has been a massive success for both Disney+ and Hulu. In fact, it was reported that “Moving” topped the list of locally produced originals worldwide on Disney+ during the previous year.
The series, based on a well-known webtoon initially penned by Kang, is a screen adaptation of one of his works that has previously been transformed into numerous regional films. Notably, this production too was written by Kang himself. Featuring some of the most prominent figures in Korean cinema and TV, such as Ryu Seung-ryong, Han Hyo-joo, and Zo In-sung, this show is highly anticipated.
The series narrates the tale of a team of South Korean agents who are dedicated to shielding their super-gifted offspring from danger and misuse by corrupt government entities. They were initially brought on board due to their extraordinary talents such as flight, rapid healing, and heightened senses. However, these agents mysteriously vanished following assignments that grew progressively questionable.
At the Singapore exhibition, Disney unveiled information about four upcoming Korean series amidst a wave of K-content announcements. Notably, Disney+ will debut its first historical drama from Korea titled “The Murky Stream“. This period piece, taking place during the Joseon era, features Rowoon and Shin Yeeun in lead roles. Another action-drama named “The Manipulated” boasts Ji Changwook and Doh Kyungsoo as its stars. Additionally, there’s a political drama called “Tempest“, which brings together Jun Gianna, Gang Dongwon, and John Cho on screen. Lastly, the series “Made In Korea” will feature Hyun Bin and Jung Woosung.
As a dedicated fan, I was privileged to get an exclusive sneak peek at the journalism drama Unmasked, the medical thriller Hyper Knife, the period crime drama Knock-off, the serial killer drama Nine Puzzles, and the treasure-seeking period drama Low Life. What a thrill it was!
Investing heavily in Korean content has proven to be a major success for Disney+, attracting significant viewership not only in South Korea but also globally, boosting subscriptions, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. Choi stated that in 2023, nine out of the top 15 most popular international original titles on Disney+ were Korean productions, as determined by views. Furthermore, Choi noted that the Korean action drama A Shop For Killers became the most-watched series on Disney+ across the Asia-Pacific region in 2024.
