As a die-hard fan of the Scott Pilgrim universe, I find myself both elated and disheartened by the news of the cancellation of “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off“. On one hand, it’s a bitter pill to swallow knowing that we won’t get more of this brilliantly crafted series. But on the other, I’m eternally grateful for the one season we did receive, especially since I never dared to dream that such a gem would ever see the light of day.
The streaming service, previously known as Twitter X, has officially canceled the hit series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off“, marking another popular show to fall victim to their apparent disfavor for quality content. Co-developer and executive producer Bryan Lee O’Malley announced this news on his social media platform, stating that the series will not return. Fans of the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley can take solace in the fact that “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” wrapped up its story within the first season, unlike other canceled shows such as Glow.
You’re aware that our initial plan was for just one season, and we went to great lengths to make it a reality by calling in favors. Expanding beyond this would have been extremely challenging. However, I understand that some of you may still be hoping for more.
In his post, O’Malley not only commended the entire team behind the series, but also deemed the show’s production as nothing short of miraculous. “Exactly a year ago, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was released,” he penned down, further stating, “Collaborating with the talented cast and crew from around the globe was an incredible experience. Each day felt like directing a symphony orchestra. From the very conception by [Ben David Grabinski], the project seemed nothing short of a unique miracle.
Fans Are Bittersweet about ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’s Cancelation
Initially, when the news about this series broke, many presumed it to be a straightforward animated version of Edgar Wright’s film. However, instead, what we got was a refreshing deviation with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. This reimagining saw each of the Seven Evil Exes getting their own episodes, which allowed for the exploration of internal conflicts among them. Interestingly, Scott Pilgrim took a backseat for the initial part of the show, empowering Ramona Flowers as a character by giving her more autonomy. The response from fans and critics was overwhelmingly positive, with the series boasting a 96% score among critics and an 85% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Beneath Bryan Lee O’Malley’s post, the comments were overflowing with emotional responses to the news. Some were deeply upset about the series being canceled, as @SceledrusZER0 expressed, “It’s unfortunate they’d grant Big Mouth 10 trillion seasons, but not something truly VALUABLE.” Nevertheless, most commenters were merely grateful for the show they received. “@SolidTexture” wrote, “It’s sad it won’t return, but I’m satisfied. I didn’t anticipate getting even this, and I’m thankful I did,” while “@TAHK0” added, “I’m content we got one – it surpassed all my expectations.
