Law And Order's Riley Has Doubts About Dixon's Replacement In Exclusive Fall Finale Clip, But Will The Advice About Brady Pay Off?

As a die-hard fan of Law & Order for over three decades now, I must say that the upcoming fall finale is shaping up to be quite the nail-biter. The return of Lt. Jessica Brady’s former precinct and her enigmatic persona has me on tenterhooks!

Believe it or not, Law & Order‘s run of new episodes is about to come to an end in the 2024 TV schedule with the fall finale on November 21. After the previous episode reminded viewers why Hudson University in a dangerous place in Dick Wolf’s nine-show TV universe, the fall finale will revisit Lt. Jessica Brady’s former precinct. In an exclusive clip (seen above), Riley still has his doubts about Brady as Lt. Kate Dixon’s replacement, and receives some advice about getting her to open up from one of the cops who formerly worked under her.

In the video, Mehcad Brooks showcases a fresh brand of humor for Season 24, as Shaw engages in playful banter with Riley about eating beef sticks during surveillance, but their conversation in the car isn’t all light-hearted. A third officer, portrayed by Mike Vogel from “The Help”, comments that they were fortunate to have Brady transferred, but Riley only concedes that she keeps her cards close to her chest. According to someone who has worked with her previously, “you’re not asking the right questions” if you aren’t getting answers from Brady. It remains to be seen whether Riley will heed this advice; we’ll have to watch and see.

Riley and Shaw found themselves getting along better with Brady following some clarifications from Dixon in Season 24. This season’s episodes are available for streaming with a Peacock subscription. The plot of the fall finale, titled “Bad Apple”, seems particularly personal for Brady as suggested by NBC’s episode summary.

A drug enforcement agent gets ambushed with a gunshot wound in the back, when Brady revisits her former police station for an inquiry on a homicide case. Finding inconsistencies in the suspect’s narrative, she calls upon Shaw and Riley to help uncover the actual events behind the murder.

It’s intriguing to observe the dynamics between Shaw, Riley, and their two partner cops during the stakeout. Despite Riley’s firm stance on disliking beef sticks, the group appears to be meshing reasonably well, but it’s tricky to make a definitive judgment based on a single scene. The main question mark hangs over whether Shaw and Riley can effectively coax Brady into revealing more by asking insightful questions. For now, we can confirm that there were no issues between the cast members off-screen, as one actor revealed that Maura Tierney quickly found her place within the Law & Order ensemble.

Discover what awaits in the last episode of the year for Law & Order, which will air again as part of its 2025 TV schedule with the fall finale on November 21 at 8 p.m., ET on NBC. As always, the popular drama is followed by Law & Order: SVU at 9 p.m., ET, and this time around, the fall finale sees Kelli Giddish reprising her role for the second time this season as Carisi gets caught up in a hostage situation. In case you miss it, episodes of both shows will be available to stream during the winter break on Peacock. Get ready for the winter premieres on January 16.
