As a seasoned theater enthusiast who has been fortunate enough to witness some of Broadway’s most captivating performances, I can’t help but feel a thrill running down my spine at the prospect of Jeremy Jordan gracing the stage once again! With his stellar performances in Newsies, Smash, and now The Great Gatsby, it’s evident that this man knows how to command an audience.
Jeremy Jordan will star in the Broadway premiere of Floyd Collins this spring.
In the spotlight now is Jordan, who’s captivating audiences on Broadway in “The Great Gatsby” production, with additional roles such as those in “Newsies” and “Smash.” Joining him in this cast are Jason Gotay portraying Homer Collins, Sean Allan Krill stepping into H.T. Carmichael, Marc Kudisch taking the role of Lee Collins, Lizzy McAlpine as Nellie Collins, Wade McCollum as Bee Doyle, Jessica Molaskey as Miss Jane, Taylor Trensch as Skeets Miller, and Cole Vaughan assuming the character of Jewell Estes.
Besides the main actors, we have Kevin Bernard, Dwayne Cooper, Jeremy Davis, Charlie Franklin, Kristen Hahn, Happy McPartlin, Kevyn Morrow, Zak Resnick, Justin Showell, Colin Trudell, and Clyde Voce joining the crew as well.
The play, penned by Tina Landau for the script and composed by Adam Guettel with lyrics, along with some additional words by Landau herself, is set to start previews on Thursday, March 27th and open officially at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Monday, April 21st. Notably, Landau, who previously directed the Broadway production of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” will also be directing this upcoming show.
The movie “Floyd Collins” recounts the actual events of a caver who was stuck 200 feet below ground level in 1925, sparking a frenzy in the media as attempts were made to save him.
The musical initially premiered at the American Music Theater Festival in Philadelphia back in 1994, later moving to Broadway. Before that, it had its off-Broadway debut at Playwrights Horizons in 1996. During this period, it won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical and a cast recording was produced, which has helped boost the musical’s visibility over time.
The performance will feature set designs by dots, costumes designed by Anita Yavich, lighting handled by Scott Zielinski, sound managed by Dan Moses Schreier, visual projections provided by Ray Sun, and choreographed dance movements by Jon Rua.
