This Blade Clip Will Get You Hyped (And Maybe A Little Angry)

As a long-time fan of Wesley Snipes and the Blade franchise, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and frustration when I see the latest developments regarding the Daywalker. The “Daywalker” short from Marvel’s Midnight Suns video game was a welcome reminder of what makes Blade so cool – his raw badassery, his gritty tone, and the pulse-pounding action that never fails to get my heart racing.

In the film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Wesley Snipes’ character Blade makes an appearance as one of many cameos, serving primarily to evoke nostalgia rather than contributing significantly to the plot. His brief role reminds viewers that “Blade: Trinity” is not the end of Snipes’ portrayal of the Daywalker in their minds. However, numerous fans long for a revival of Blade, and a clip from the game “Marvel’s Midnight Suns” underscores the urgency for a new standalone movie featuring Blade.

In a prequel short available on @atmightyclint Instagram, we see Blade, the “Daywalker,” engaged in his signature activities – vanquishing vampires. The pulse-pounding “Blood Rave” techno track from the original “Blade” film scores these actions, mirroring the movie’s opening scene where our hero swiftly dispatches a horde of bloodthirsty creatures.

A year after its release, that clip still feels fresh, leaving us eager fans on tenterhooks for another Blade movie. It’s an amazing piece, but it also stirs up frustration because we all know this character should be a cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige and team, it’s high time you tap into the excitement and deliver what we’ve been craving.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a reminder of what makes Blade so cool

The characteristics of “Marvel’s Midnight Suns” seem fitting for a Blade film. To begin with, the main character exudes an unmatched coolness, comparable to a polar bear’s frozen claws. He maintains his composure even in perilous situations, effortlessly dispatching vampires with ease. This is the kind of hero that most moviegoers would admire, embodying what Blade stands for perfectly.

The clip also captures the spirit of the original Blade movies. From the gritty urban landscapes to the techno soundtrack to the splatter to the gruesome monsters, it was unlike other comic book adaptations of its era. Marvel brought back some of these R-rated street sensibilities with shows like “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” and “The Punisher,” but they were short-lived and didn’t feature Blade. Marvel is long overdue for a project that fully leans into gruesome horror, and a Blade movie would fit the bill.

In contrast to the original Blade films, the “Daywalker” short offers a fresh perspective in today’s cinematic climate. With superhero movies predominantly focusing on grandeur and mildness, a raw, violent, street-level, retro-style Blade production could make a striking impact. Marvel has long been planning a new Daywalker project with a well-respected actor as the lead, but recent developments suggest it may not materialize—and fans are growing frustrated.

Why are Marvel fans so upset about the Blade movie?

There are ongoing issues with Marvel’s Blade reboot featuring Mahershala Ali that are causing worry among fans. The film was initially announced back in 2019, but it appears that, like the vampires Blade fights, this project is struggling to make its way to the big screen. Fans are frustrated by the lack of progress from Marvel Studios, as the movie has been removed from the 2025 release schedule, which some consider a fatal blow to the project.

As a die-hard fan, I’d like to clarify: When they say a movie has been postponed indefinitely, it generally means it’s been canceled. Now, regarding the upcoming Blade film featuring Ali, while I sincerely hope we get another installment, it seems this particular project has come to an end.

According to @HorseOneThms, it seems likely that Mahershala may soon choose to leave the film project, given its current state. On social media, this user expressed their thoughts as, “How long before Mahershala decides to jump ship on this disaster?” It appears that Ali has been growing increasingly dissatisfied with the delays in progress for “Blade”, and if previous reports are true, it might not be surprising if Mahershala were to leave.

Elsewhere, @EricJHovland argued that Marvel has no idea how to bring this project to the screen, so people shouldn’t expect the movie any time soon. “It’s a concept that shouldn’t be so hard to get right yet Feige and his team can’t figure out how to get the right people on the project to make it happen.” These concerns are understandable, but Marvel’s top brass refuse to put the nail in the coffin.

Marvel promised we will see a Blade in the MCU (at some point)

The reboot of Marvel’s Blade movie is facing some challenges, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the project isn’t completely dead. During D23 Brazil, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Blade will eventually be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moreover, it appears that Mahershala Ali remains committed to portraying the character of Blade, at least for the time being.

Feige confirmed their dedication to the character Blade. He expressed fondness for the character and Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of it. He also mentioned that they keep their audience informed about any changes in projects or scheduling. However, he assured us that Blade will definitely join the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually.

It’s worth noting that not everyone is thrilled with Mahershala Ali as the Daywalker in the MCU. Some fans are hoping for one more opportunity for Wesley Snipes to reprise his role, but it seems unlikely that “Blade 4” will materialize. Nevertheless, it’s reassuring to know that Marvel has future plans for the character, and perhaps they can capture the same intensity found in the mentioned short film when they bring it to live action.
