As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds, I can honestly say that the real world sometimes manages to surprise me just as much as any game. The recent Hallmark Christmas movie, “Confessions of a Christmas Letter,” is a perfect example of this.
Hallmark has been discussing a change in the variety of Christmas movies they’re producing, not just focusing on LGBTQ+ couples or non-Christmas holidays. A notable expansion is their genre diversity. For instance, recently they’ve produced more comedic holiday films such as “Three Wise Men and A Baby” and “Haul Out the Holly”. This month, they even released a movie starring Angela Kinsey from “The Office”, which included an unexpected reunion of cast members that took me by surprise.
This month, Kinsey appeared on Hallmark’s schedule for the first time with “Confessions of a Christmas Letter“, a fresh original comedy where Kinsey’s character Settie Rose is determined to win her town’s annual Christmas letter competition following years of embarrassment. To get ahead of her long-time rival, she hires a professional writer for assistance. Meanwhile, Kinsey’s daughter returns home for the holidays and there might be more sparks flying between her daughter and the hired writer than just their written ideas. The film also features an unexpected cameo from the popular TV show “The Office“.
The Story Behind How Confessions Of A Christmas Letter Has A Great The Office Nod
In the beginning of the movie, Miss Rose is seen sending a letter at the post office, where she encounters Brian Baumgartner, known for his role as Kevin Malone in “The Office.” She tries to pull out a messily written letter from the mailbox, but he intervenes, getting sidetracked by some of her trusted companions.
This moment was quite surprising, similar to how the finale of “The Office” caught us off guard. It was especially unexpected when it unfolded on the television screen. Given their history of interacting across a desk, just as they had done countless times throughout the popular sitcom series, it seemed reminiscent and almost like a nod back to those days.
It’s interesting to note that it was the actress herself who proposed the idea of the cameo. In an interview with Us Weekly, she shared that the producers had suggested a small role at the start could be ideal for a cameo from a TV friend. Upon hearing this, Kinsey spontaneously thought of Baumgartner.
They informed me that they were seeking a postman’s part, and they were considering someone from my workplace for the role. This instantly brought Brian to mind, so I contacted him. He responded positively, and it turned out wonderfully. It felt like we never stopped working together.
It’s amazing to realize that it’s been over ten years since The Office stopped airing, yet the impact of this NBC series remains strong enough for a brief appearance like this to be such an enjoyable and memorable event even now. This suggests the immense popularity of the show, as the cast and crew have kept the same warm, family-like atmosphere even after their network TV run ended. In fact, it seems that making a cameo was almost inevitable given their close bond.
Despite being geographically dispersed, the team from our office remains closely connected. Whenever we’re in town or happen to be nearby, we make an effort to get in touch. It’s important for us to lend one another support, and it’s this camaraderie that I truly appreciate about our workplace.
This year, we’ve seen more than one reunion set in the world of “Office”, with Steve Carell and John Krasinski sharing some heartfelt moments on the set of “If”. The casting of these familiar faces immediately put me in a holiday mood. If you haven’t checked out “Confessions of A Christmas Letter” yet, I definitely recommend giving it a try!
