As a devoted fan of the Percy Jackson series, I can hardly contain my excitement at the casting news! Courtney B. Vance joining the cast as Zeus is a stroke of genius and a perfect choice to fill the shoes left vacant by the late, great Lance Reddick.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has found its new Zeus.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, too, have joined the exciting world of Disney+! I’ve been cast as the king of the Greek gods. This role was previously brought to life by the talented Lance Reddick, who captivated us all in season one. Now, it’s my turn to step into his shoes and bring a new dimension to this iconic character. Can’t wait to dive in!
Vance expressed his immense enthusiasm about becoming part of the exceptional cast of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians“. He stated that it’s not often in an actor’s journey when they can truthfully say they’re going to embark on a series with such a dedicated fanbase, featuring characters cherished globally, and is adapted from a best-selling book series. Vance acknowledged that taking on the role of Zeus will be a moment he’ll always remember, and he’ll send his dearly departed brother, Lance Reddick, who left us prematurely, a warm embrace in heaven.
As a thrilled fan, I’m excitedly looking forward to the upcoming production of Percy Jackson’s second season! Joining the cast for this new chapter are some fantastic talents like Vance, Daniel Diemer, Tamara Smart, Andra Day, with Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, and Kristen Schaal gracing us as guest stars. Can’t wait to see what adventures await Percy and his friends!
The storyline for the upcoming season is inspired by “The Sea of Monsters,” which is the second book in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. In this sequel to the first season, Percy (Walker Scobell) comes back to Camp Half-Blood a year later and discovers his world has dramatically changed. His relationship with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) is shifting, he uncovers a cyclops sibling, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) is missing, and the camp is under attack from Kronos’ forces. Percy’s mission to restore order will lead him beyond familiar territories and into the treacherous Sea of Monsters, where an unknown destiny lies in wait for him.
Season two of the show is being developed by the executive team at Riordan, led by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz. Joining them are Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein from The Gotham Group, along with Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler and Sarah Watson.
Vance has just finished working on FX’s series “Grotesquerie.” His other recent projects include the AMC/CW drama “61st Street,” “Genius: Aretha,” and “Lovecraft Country,” which earned him an Emmy award in 2020.
