As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who’s been around the block more times than I care to admit, it seems Netflix has struck gold with Harlan Coben. The man’s thrillers are like a fine wine – they just get better with age! And the latest offering, “Missing You,” looks to be no exception.
There’s something captivating about Harlan Coben, the creator of “Fool Me Once,” that Netflix seems to be hooked on, and for good reason. The streaming giant has unveiled the trailer for their upcoming, pulse-racing thriller series, “Missing You,” which is adapted from Coben’s 2014 novel with the same title, and it promises an exciting ride.
Based on a novel by Coben, the narrative revolves around Kat Donovan, a private investigator specializing in missing persons. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a man resembling someone who’s been missing for over a decade on a dating app. The series features Rosalind Eleazar, Ashley Walters, Lenny Henry, and Richard Armitage in leading roles. Notably, Armitage has previously collaborated with Coben in adaptations of “The Stranger,” “Stay Close,” and “Fool Me Once.

Netflix is All-In on Harlan Coben Adaptations
The trailer begins by showcasing blissful moments, prior to Josh (Walters)’s vanishing and the drastic change in Kat (Eleazar)’s existence. It effectively conveys the level of tension, hinting at significant events as hidden truths unravel with each plot twist. Consisting of 5 episodes, each lasting an hour, the series is set to debut on New Year’s Day.
After the tremendous success of Joe Coben’s previous TV show, “Fool Me Once”, Netflix quickly approved two more series from him: “Missing You” and “Run Away”. These new shows aimed to reproduce the magic of “Fool Me Once” again. In the first half of 2024, these series became the most-watched show on Netflix, amassing over one hundred million streams worldwide. It surpassed the viewership of “Bridgerton” Season 3, “Baby Reindeer”, “The Gentlemen”, and even “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.
The film titled “Missing You” is being produced by Quay Street Productions, in collaboration with ITV Studios. Eric Coben, through his company Final Twist Productions, will serve as executive producer. Similar to his other Netflix adaptations, the narrative will be moved to the UK. Earlier this year, filming was completed in North West England, near Manchester.
The release date for Harlan Coben’s other series titled “Run Away” has not been set yet. This series centers around a father searching for his daughter who fell into the clutches of drugs and an abusive man. Interestingly, it’s also been reported that Coben is working on another series, inspired by his novel “I Will Find You“. Much like his other works, this novel delivers a nail-biting suspense as it follows an innocent man imprisoned for the murder of his son, who, upon receiving evidence suggesting his child may still be alive, makes a desperate attempt to escape prison.
On November 26th, Tudum, a publication by Netflix, revealed the upcoming limited series they are producing. Robert Hull has been assigned to oversee the project and adapt the novel for screen. Hull is recognized for his work on shows such as “Alcatraz”, “Quantum Leap”, and “God Friended Me”. This will be the 11th show under Coben’s long-term contract with Netflix, with “Missing You” and “The Runaway” being the ninth and tenth adaptations. What makes this series stand out is that it marks the first US-scripted project for Netflix, whereas all previous Coben projects originated in the UK. As before, Coben will serve as an executive producer. Victoria Asare-Archer is the lead writer, with Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota set to direct.
Despite all these modifications, Coben continues to carve out time for writing. His upcoming thriller, “Nobody’s Fool“, is set to hit shelves on March 25, 2025. Movie enthusiasts will no doubt be eagerly anticipating its release as well.
