Rajkummar Rao reveals why he asked wifey Patralekha to apply sindoor on him at their wedding, ‘I felt why is it just her…’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for relationships, I find Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha’s unique approach to traditional rituals truly inspiring. Their commitment to equality and mutual respect is not only refreshing but also sets an exemplary standard for modern couples.

Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha have frequently caught fans’ attention with their affectionate actions as a couple, emphasizing ‘equality’ in their partnership. At their wedding, he asked her to apply the sindoor, a customary practice where the groom applies it to the bride’s forehead, but he chose to reverse this tradition. More recently, Rajkummar Rao explained his reason for having Patralekha apply the sindoor at their wedding.

In a candid interview with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, the Stree 2 actor discussed his popular gesture and explained that he saw Patralekha wearing a lot of things like sindoor, mangalsutra, and chooda that are worn by a bride on her wedding.

In that instant, he found himself pondering over the concept of equality in their relationship, considering he was now wearing a ring, which led him to make a spontaneous declaration. He mused aloud, “Why is she adorned with sindoor, mangalsutra, and chooda, while I only wear a ring? She has undertaken so much, yet I have done little. I suggested, ‘It’s only fair that you put sindoor on me too.'” He expressed these sentiments.

Patralekha felt deeply moved by the kind act of the actor, and they were overjoyed on the special day. Yet, they didn’t foresee just how much attention it would receive. He shared, “She understands me well, so this was something she thought I’d do. Still, I’m grateful that it resonated with so many people.

Beyond swapping the tradition of placing vermilion on one another’s foreheads, Rao mentioned an additional custom they followed: requesting their wedding priest to elucidate the significance behind every chant he uttered. He reminisced about a humorous occurrence and shared, “There was a statement that said she wouldn’t be able to get angry with me. I swiftly responded, ‘This one won’t work, it’s not applicable.’

Back in 2010, I was fortunate enough to start a beautiful journey with my partner. Fast forward to November 15, 2024, we made our bond official in a private ceremony held in the tranquil city of Chandigarh.

In terms of his professional life, Rajkummar Rao recently appeared in the video titled “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala,” sharing the screen with Triptii and Mallika Sherawat.
