Focus Features has picked up the sci-fi thriller Hot Spot from director Agnieszka Smoczyńska.
The movie, featuring Noomi Rapace, Andrzej Konopka, and Reika Kirishima, completed filming in Greece recently. Focus is once again collaborating with Smoczyńska following the release of their first English-language production titled Silent Twins, which showcased Letitia Wright from Black Panther and Tamara Lawrance. Kiska Higgs, the president of production and acquisitions at Focus, expressed her excitement about sharing Agnieszka’s upcoming work with the global audience in a statement.
In the global distribution deal for the movie “Hot Spot”, produced by an American studio, all regions except Poland, Greece, and France were acquired. This film, penned by Robert Bolesto, is set in a future society controlled by intelligent artificial systems, where a private investigator uncovers a murder mystery that leads to a hidden rebellion capable of challenging the digital supremacy.
I feel privileged to collaborate with Focus Features, a company whose outstanding film accomplishments are matched by their consistent respect and backing for directors. In our upcoming project, ‘Hot Spot’, I aim to craft an engaging cinematic journey that encapsulates the spirit of today’s world, where advanced technology seems like enchantment, and love is interwoven with fear. The movie is created by Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, who has been Smoczyńska’s longtime producing partner and was involved in the production of Silent Twins, as well as Bogna Szewczyk-Skupień for the Polish production company Madants. Co-producers include Amanda Livanou from Neda Film, Kristina Börjeson from Film i Väst, Lizette Jonjic from Zentropa, Beata Ryczkowska and Filip Bałdyga for Canal+ Polska, and Adam Gudell from Moderator Inwestycje.

The business agreement regarding distribution was finalized between Iddo Arad, Focus’s senior vice president of business affairs, and Przybecki & Partners on behalf of the producers. Smoczyńska is managed by UTA, Black Bear, and High Spot, while Konopka is represented by Cont-act.
Rapace (the character) is symbolized by the CAA, while Stella Hernström portrays her. The negotiations for her deal were handled by Kurt Selling. On the other hand, Kirishima is associated with Nest Co. in this context.
