The Story Behind The Worst Tasting Drink At Epcot, And Why Everybody Tries It

As a seasoned Disney enthusiast who’s spent more time than I’d like to admit navigating the magical world of Epcot, I must confess that I have a peculiar fondness for an unusual attraction there – Club Cool. It’s not for its charming ambiance or the merchandise it offers, but rather for the intriguing assortment of Coca-Cola concoctions from around the globe that it serves.

hey there! as someone who can’t get enough of theme parks, especially Walt Disney World, I find myself at Epcot more often than not. This park is like my go-to spot because let’s be real – foodie at heart, right? And Epcot doesn’t disappoint when it comes to satisfying my cravings! With eateries such as Space 220 and a smorgasbord of global cuisines offered through World Showcase, you’ll find a dining experience that suits every taste bud. Whether you’re in the mood for a gourmet meal or just need a tasty snack, Epcot has got you covered!

At Epcot in Disney World, the food is exceptional; however, it’s important to note that the drinks there are notoriously poor. They are overly bitter and unpleasant, but surprisingly, many visitors continue to consume them.

Indeed, I’ve encountered this situation multiple times, albeit with reluctance as I find it quite unpleasant. Allow me to present to you a familiar acquaintance of mine named Beverly.

Club Cool At Epcot Contains Coke Drinks From Around The World

For quite some time, Coca-Cola and Disney have been collaborating partners. This partnership led to the debut of Ice Station Cool at Epcot back in 1998. In 2005, it was renamed Club Cool. The revamped version of Club Cool reopened in 2021 as part of Epcot’s five-year renovation project.

Undeniably, this spot primarily serves as a venue for buying Coca-Cola goods. Whether you’re thirsty for a refreshing beverage or looking to acquire some Coke-themed items, they cater to your needs. Interestingly, one of the key attractions of this place is the complimentary samples they offer.

At Club Cool, modeled after Epcot’s World Showcase, you can discover a variety of Coca-Cola drinks from around the globe. Not all nations offer the same Coke products due to cultural preferences. Therefore, in different countries, you can find beverages that are exclusive, using distinct local flavors.

Most of these are quite good. I made a point to try everything available on my last trip to Epcot. Madagascar’s Bonbon Anglais is a delicious blend of tropical fruit. I was particularly surprised by how much I enjoyed Russia’s Sprite Cucumber, which is even more refreshing than the standard version we have. China’s Suan Mei Tang, which is a sour plum tea, doesn’t work for everybody. But then there’s the drink that works for almost nobody.

What Is Beverly And Why Is It Terrible?

On one side of the soda fountain, there’s a drink named “Beverly.” Originally created for Italy, this beverage was designed as a pre-meal drink, often categorized as an apéritif. Typically, apéritifs contain alcohol, but Beverly is a non-alcoholic exception. These drinks are meant to help with digestion and are typically not sweet; Beverly aligns perfectly with this description.

Originating in Italy back in 1969, Beverly is a beverage known for its exceptionally bitter taste. It’s said that the grapefruit peel used in its production contributes to this intense bitterness. Despite being widely disliked, there are some individuals who find enjoyment in it. Interestingly, its unpopularity seems to fuel its consumption.

Beverly Is So Popular For Being So Bad That It’s Now Only Available To Sample

Experiencing the notorious drink at Epcot seems to be a tradition for visitors now, leading one to wonder if Beverly truly lives up to its infamous reputation. Many people are curious about it, while others use it as a prank on friends and capture their reactions. This has turned Beverly into the most sought-after item to taste in Club Cool.

Through the years, while other drinks offered at the Club Cool fountain have been altered, Beverly has been the consistent choice. Its popularity is so high that it’s now specifically brewed for tasting purposes.

Originally manufactured for Italy, Beverly was no longer available there starting in 2009. Today, it can only be found in four locations worldwide. Coca-Cola has two World of Coca-Cola Museums – one in its hometown Atlanta and another in Las Vegas. The remaining locations are at Disney World, specifically the Coca-Cola store at Disney Springs and Epcot’s Club Cool.

Beverly is now produced for no reason other than so people can try it. Regardless, It seems unlikely the crowds will be going away anytime soon.
