Kevin Costner Western Series 'Hatfields & McCoys' Sets Streaming Release

As a film enthusiast with years of cinematic experiences under my belt, I must say that Kevin Costner is indeed a Western legend. His portrayal of Devil Anse Hatfield in “Hatfields & McCoys” was a masterclass in storytelling and acting. The miniseries, set to arrive on Prime Video next month, is a must-watch for any Western fan, especially if you’ve somehow managed to miss it over the years.

Kevin Costner is recognized for his numerous blockbuster Western movies such as Dances with Wolves, Open Range, and Wyatt Earp. However, in 2012, this actor teamed up with the late Bill Paxton on a smaller screen production to retell one of the most notorious family feuds ever documented – the Hatfields & McCoys saga. This miniseries premiered on the History Channel a decade ago and attracted a massive audience, with 13.9 million viewers tuning in for Part 1 of the three-part series. Now, this captivating tale is scheduled to arrive on Prime Video next month.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the critically acclaimed miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys” is finally making its way to Prime Video on December 1st! If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t had the chance to witness this Emmy-nominated masterpiece, now’s your time to join the chorus of praise. This gripping series delves into the decades-long feud between two families in the West Virginia/Kentucky region during the Civil War era of 1863, extending well into the early Reconstruction years. So, mark your calendars and get ready for a historical journey that’s been causing quite the stir!

Besides Costner playing William Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield and Paxton depicting Randolph “Randall” McCoy, the series Hatfields & McCoys boasts an illustrious cast that includes Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, Jena Malone, and Mare Winningham. This contentious show garners a 71% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but its audience score is significantly higher at 93%, making it a beloved choice among Western fans despite the opinions of entertainment experts regarding the production. Keep in mind that each of the three episodes runs approximately two hours, so be prepared for an extended viewing experience once you press play.

What’s Going on With Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Saga?

Moving past the story of the Hatfields and McCoys, let’s discuss the current status of Kevin Costner’s Horizon saga. The first chapter of this anticipated four-part series debuted in theaters earlier this year but unfortunately underperformed at the box office, generating only $38.2 million against a production budget of $50 million. As a result, the release date for Chapter 2, initially scheduled for August 16, has been postponed. Although the movie is completed and ready to be screened, New Line Cinema has taken it off their schedule and are reportedly reconsidering their next steps.

Regarding Chapter 3, Costner has filmed some scenes, but admitted in August that he’s unsure about how to wrap up the project. Since he’s self-financing a large portion of the production, he’s temporarily pausing to work on a surfing thriller to help raise funds for his Western epic. However, it remains unclear if New Line will still be interested in a theatrical release or if it will go straight to streaming. At this moment, neither Costner nor anyone else knows the answer to that question.

For now, feel free to spend the next six hours immersed in “Hatfields & McCoys” once it’s available on Prime Video starting December 1st. Also, don’t forget to explore “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” which is currently streaming on Max.
