As a lifelong musical theatre enthusiast who has been following the Wicked saga since its inception, I am absolutely thrilled about the release of the first movie installment. The captivating performance by Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero and the enigmatic blue eyes he sports have sparked much intrigue among fans like myself.
Among the highly anticipated films set for release in 2024, the long-awaited project, “Wicked“, made a grand debut at the box office over the weekend. Both audiences and critics have been raving about nearly every aspect of the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical that exudes charm and emotion. The buzz surrounding it is deafening, with much adoration directed towards Jonathan Bailey’s portrayal of Fiyero, particularly his captivating blue eyes. Now, the actor who plays Shiz’s Prince Charming has shared some insights about those striking blue orbs.
In conversation with TopMob, alongside his fellow star Jeff Goldblum, Bailey revealed insights about the film “Wicked.” He also explained the purpose behind his striking “Winkie Blue” lenses. The actor, whose natural eyes are brown, opted for blue contact lenses in this production, revealing an intentional choice with a specific reason behind it.
The reason why we did [blue eyes] will become clear in the second film.
Having always missed out on witnessing the Broadway production of “Wicked” live, I find myself eagerly seeking more insights (while trying my best to steer clear of spoilers). From the conversations I’ve had and the media I’ve consumed, including the film adaptation, it’s evident that color plays a crucial role in narrating this tale. Consequently, I can’t wait to discover why Fiyero’s eyes are such an icy blue – a detail that promises to be captivating once I finally get to explore the stage version.
However, while he wouldn’t divulge too much, Bailey did hint that a part of a song from Part 2 titled “As Long As Your Mine” has something to do with it, and I’m even more curious. He shared:
There’s a lyric in the duet, where, um…’ You’ve got me seeing through different eyes.’
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the captivating duet between Elphaba and Fiyero in the movie. Their chemistry is undeniable, and I eagerly anticipate unraveling the intricacies of their relationship in Part 2. Above all, I’m curious to discover if there’s any connection between her and his enigmatic blue eyes – a mystery that adds depth to this captivating narrative.
It seems like we’re in for a lengthy journey ahead, doesn’t it? Yet, I do have some theories and insights as to what this might entail. But, to decipher the mystery that lies within those eyes, we’ll need to be patient and see how things unfold.

Without a doubt, the conversations between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in their interviews have been the highlight of Wicked: Part 1‘s promotional campaign. However, Bailey and Goldblum make an entertaining pair that I can’t wait to see more of in Part 2. As we eagerly anticipate its release, I find myself looking forward to additional interviews like these. The insights shared by the cast have been both enlightening and informative for newcomers like me, such as the interesting tidbit about their eye colors. As I patiently wait for the next film’s premiere on the 2025 movie schedule, I can’t help but ponder what it all means in the meantime.
For people unfamiliar with the reason why his eyes are strikingly blue, we’ll find out more when Wicked: Part 2 is released. But for now, let’s delve into the mystery of how Bailey manages to keep his legs so perfectly toned.
