Shahid Kapoor on taking ‘outsider’s route’ despite having parents Pankaj Kapur, Neliima Azeem in industry: ‘I didn’t have a relationship with my father…’

As an ardent admirer of Shahid Kapoor, I find his journey in Bollywood nothing short of inspiring. Born into a family of illustrious actors, yet he chose to carve out his own path – the ‘outsider’s route.’ It speaks volumes about his determination and resilience.

Shahid Kapoor, known as the offspring of actors Pankaj Kapur and Neliima Azeem, has shared insights about choosing the path less traveled in Bollywood even with family ties within the industry. The actor expressed that this was the only option open to him. He confided that although he enjoyed a good rapport with his father, there wasn’t a relationship where he felt compelled to ask for guidance.

During an interview on The Faye D’Souza Show, Shahid Kapoor was questioned about choosing the path less traveled, to which he responded, “What other options were there for me?” Shahid explained that while he had a good relationship with his father Pankaj Kapur, he had been residing with his mother Neliima Azeem since he was three years old.

The actor discussed how his half-brother, Ishaan Khatter, was born when he himself was approximately fourteen years old. He shared that his mother experienced a lot of changes as she had Ishaan at the age of 36. Shahid noted that having a child at that age wasn’t easy, especially since he also had an older brother who was 14. Furthermore, he mentioned that his mother was in Mumbai and it was her second marriage, which added complexity to the situation.

In simpler terms, the actor from Jab We Met revealed that his mother wasn’t able to secure him jobs through her connections because she was also actively seeking employment and finding it challenging to manage everything.

Regarding his father, Shahid Kapoor expressed that he didn’t maintain a type of connection where he felt comfortable asking questions. He didn’t feel the need to do so, yet he has a positive relationship with him. However, he chose not to inquire about certain things.

He mentioned that his father was consistently available for “counsel and direction,” but Shahid desired to establish a career independently. In essence, Shahid felt immensely proud of this fact. Consequently, he determined that the path less traveled by an outsider was the one he had to tread. Furthermore, it wasn’t as though Shahid had alternative options; instead, he chose not to consider them.

In terms of his career, Shahid Kapoor is getting ready for the premiere of his upcoming film titled Deva, which pairs him with Pooja Hegde. The movie is set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
