Journey of Monarch takes you on a cel-shaded RPG across a fantasy world, out now

  • Journey of Monarch is a brand new open-world MMORPG out now
  • Available on iOS and Android, it sees you trek the medieval fantasy world of Arden
  • Customise your monarch and meet, befriend and battle alongside a cast of colourful characters

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen countless MMORPGs come and go. From the days of EverQuest to the modern era of World of Warcraft, I’ve been there, done that. But when I first laid eyes on Journey of Monarch, something about it caught my attention.

Over the past few weeks, you might have observed a name appearing quite often on the site. NCsoft’s Journey of Monarch has garnered over four million pre-registrations, and it’s not just looking promising – it’s available now on iOS and Android devices!

In the game “Journey of Monarch,” you’ll become a monarch who embarks on a journey through the vibrant fantasy-medieval realm of Arden, accompanied by an assortment of lively characters. You can tailor your character to your liking and start exploring the world today, available now on the iOS App Store and Google Play. Dive into the adventure yourself!

With its expansive battle scenes and developed using Unreal Engine 5, Journey of Monarch promises an enjoyable experience not only from the gameplay aspect but also visually. However, the quality of the battles will significantly impact Journey of Monarch’s success; even with stunning visuals, a lackluster fight system may detract from the overall enjoyment.

Nothing to do with butterflies it seems

Personally, I must say that the previews for Journey of Monarch have left me particularly captivated, not so much by the gameplay (as we generally have an idea of what to expect), but rather by the stunning visuals. The blend of medieval-inspired 2D art, cel-shaded models, and clever use of perspective gives it a unique feel, as if you’re navigating a miniature tabletop RPG map with your character.

On one hand, I mentioned that its unique gameplay aspect is yet to be determined, and though it appears distinctive, I find myself contemplating games such as Dragonheir, questioning whether it will manage to distinguish itself amidst the multitude of other releases.
