As I delve into the lives of these remarkable women, I am struck by their resilience, talent, and unwavering determination. Each one has navigated the often treacherous waters of Hollywood with grace, tenacity, and an undeniable flair for storytelling.
2021 wasn’t Hollywood’s peak year, but it was the women who significantly contributed to its momentum. These include high-profile executives managing multi-billion dollar content investments, creative minds behind this year’s blockbusters, actor-producers adapting to market changes, and even pop culture icons like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. They set new benchmarks for success in an industry where achievements are hard to come by. In The Hollywood Reporter’s annual ranking of influential women in entertainment, these honorees share their forecasts for 2025, lessons from the election, long-awaited calls, and much more.
The content was compiled by Mikey O’Connell, along with valuable inputs from Kirsten Chuba, Nicole Fell, Mia Galuppo, Rebecca Keegan, Katie Kilkenny, Borys Kit, Pamela McClintock and Alex Weprin.
Pamela Abdy
CO-CHAIR & CEO, WARNER BROS. MOTION PICTURE GROUP
In their new role at WBD, Abdy and her fellow chair Michael De Luca have earned full credit for the success of September’s “Beetlejuice: Beetlejuice” which surpassed all expectations with a global gross of $451 million and unexpectedly received positive critical acclaim for a sequel that was not anticipated. Additionally, Abdy managed to breathe life into one dormant franchise, “Wonka,” while another is preparing for a period of inactivity. However, Todd Phillips’ somber musical, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” failed to resonate with audiences, despite the project already being underway by the time Abdy joined in 2022.
“The song I listened to the most in 2024 was ‘Anything’ by Sabrina Carpenter, as my daughter is the one who chooses the car music.
Lauren Anderson
HEAD OF BRAND AND CONTENT INNOVATION, AMAZON MGM STUDIOS
Although Freevee won’t be with us in the coming year, commercial breaks remain a significant focus for Amazon, as they plan to switch Prime subscriptions to an ad-supported model by 2024. Notably, Anderson has been appointed to oversee creative advertising operations across their entire portfolio. She played a crucial role in the brand’s initial upfront presentation in May, featuring Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, while her unscripted team has secured high-profile bookings, such as Travis Kelce on “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” and Colin Jost on “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”.
“Here’s my forecast for 2025 regarding Hollywood: The trend of decreasing web browsing might persist, with customers potentially finding their initial source and final destination for entertainment to be the same.”
Lucia Aniello & Jen Statsky
WRITER-PRODUCERS, HACKS
Approximately two-thirds of the creative team behind the show “Hacks” – with one exception, Paul W. Downs being a man, but he’s married to Aniello, so we’ll consider it an exception for now – these writers achieved a major triumph at the 2024 Emmys, surpassing the heavily favored “The Bear” in the category of best comedy series. With season four of their Jean Smart-led show set to air in 2025, Statsky also secured one of those rare overall deals as she joined Warner Bros. TV Group. Additionally, along with Aniello and Downs, they recently sold a promising project titled “Kansas City Star” to HBO.
Fictional character I most identify with these days
Statsky: “Eeyore.”
Still waiting on a call from …
Aniello: “Julia Louis-Dreyfus.”
My trick to staying calm right nowStatsky: “Only giving myself 9 hours of daily screen time.”
My professional crushAniello: “Julia Louis-Dreyfus.”
Jennifer Aniston
ACTOR & PRODUCER, ECHO FILMS
The perennial Emmy nominee just wrapped filming on the fourth season of the Apple TV+ hit The Morning Show, where she also is an executive producer. Her Echo Films banner raised eyebrows in the spring with news of development on a 9 to 5 reboot from writer Diablo Cody. Off camera, the woman behind “The Rachel” continues to expand the brand footprint of hair-care line LolaVie and published the children’s book Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life.
“Disengaging from social media and news sources has been a very effective method for me to maintain my peace of mind.”>
My 2025 Hollywood prediction “Anora wins an Oscar.”
Sarah Aubrey, Amy Gravitt, Francesca Orsi & Nina Rosenstein
Max serves as Head of Original Content, Executive Vice President and Head of Comedy, Executive Vice President and Head of Drama, and Executive Vice President of Programming at HBO.
Casey Bloys, our boss, might be eager to concentrate on the year 2025 following the delays caused by the strikes, which affected many shows on HBO. However, the previous year was filled with significant accomplishments. Orsi breathed new life into True Detective with Night Country, featuring Jodie Foster, and prepared for the comebacks of The White Lotus and The Last of Us; Gravitt kicked off the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm; and Rosenstein presented three of the year’s most talked-about comedy specials (Nikki Glaser’s Someday You’ll Die, Ramy Youssef’s More Feelings, Alex Edelman’s Just for Us, and Conan O’Brien’s Conan Must Go). Meanwhile, at Max, Aubrey can boast about the success of Hacks, as well as the debut of The Penguin.
As a fan, I believe the lesson Hollywood should glean from the recent elections is that our viewers may not align with our political views. Overemphasizing our disagreements seems to have led us to this point.
Currently, the fictional character I feel the closest connection to is Marion McPherson, or Lady Bird’s mother – navigating the challenges of raising a teenager certainly resonates with me!
My professional crush
Rosenstein: “Conan, because who doesn’t?”
Bela Bajaria
CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER, NETFLIX
As the head honcho overseeing content at the planet’s leading streamer, I oversee a whopping $17 billion annual budget, direct teams across 27 countries, and have been instrumental in a 16% surge in subscribers (600 million and counting) since last year. This year has been a blockbuster with hit originals like Bridgerton season three and Fool Me Once taking the streaming world by storm, while Baby Reindeer’s breakout performance swept the Emmys’ limited category. Not to mention, Squid Game, our all-time most watched original, is set to make a comeback on December 26. Looking ahead, the WWE programming deal I secured in January is due to kick into high gear by 2025.
One method I use to stay serene at present is taking a walk outdoors, sipping on coffee, during the tranquil hours of early morning, enjoying nature and the gentle rays of sunlight.
My most played song of 2024 “Hanumankind’s ‘Big Dawgs.’”
Betsy Beers & Shonda Rhimes
PRODUCERS, SHONDALAND
Yearly, Rhimes’ company, collaborating with Beers, is delivering at least one massive Netflix launch. Swiftly, season three of Bridgerton climbed into the top ten most-watched original series on the streaming platform, tallying 786.1 million hours watched and reaching a total of 2 billion. Coming soon is The Residence, a White House murder mystery starring Uzo Aduba, while Grey’s Anatomy, an ABC drama in its 21st season, continues to thrive and persist.
Frances Berwick
CHAIR, NBCUNIVERSAL ENTERTAINMENT
Despite losing some cable networks like USA, Syfy, and E! due to her company’s recent SpinCo deal, Berwick still holds a significant domain encompassing programming and strategy for the top television network (NBC), streaming platform Peacock (which features hit series Traitors), and her previous workplace, Bravo. The profitable cable channel of reality shows featuring yacht staff and housewives is too valuable for NBCU to let go from its other affiliated networks.
My most played song of 2024 ” ‘Please Please Please,’ by Sabrina Carpenter.”

Beyoncé
SINGER & FILMMAKER
After her Renaissance World Tour and releasing a genre-defying country album (Cowboy Carter), Beyoncé increased her total Grammy nominations to 79, making her the most nominated artist in history. She then celebrated the holidays with a sensational halftime show during Netflix’s inaugural NFL game this Christmas, a significant challenge for Netflix’s live streaming strategy. Nobody wants a paused performance by Beyoncé.
Michelle Bohan, Stephanie Ritz & Sarah Self
SENIOR PARTNERS, WME
Bohan observed that deals for Jesse Eisenberg (in “A Real Pain”) and Amy Adams (for “Nightbitch”) became reality following Emma Stone’s second Oscar win and subsequent release of more films (“I Saw the TV Glow”) and television shows (“Fantasmas”) under her Fruit Tree label. Meanwhile, Self also noticed Selena Gomez earn her first Emmy nomination for acting in “Only Murders in the Building” and generate Oscar buzz for “Emilia Pérez”. Furthermore, a client of Ritz, Robert Pattinson, has agreed to work again with Christopher Nolan, while Brett Goldstein is being propelled into a leading man role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy “Office Romance”.
My trick to staying calm right now
Bohan: “Therapy.” Self: “Hot yoga.”
Fictional character I most identify with these days
Ritz: “Sisyphus.”
Robbie Brenner
PRESIDENT, MATTEL FILMS
Due to the success of Barbie demonstrating that a toy-to-theater transition can work, the head of Mattel Films has been able to leverage years of preparation. The long-awaited Masters of the Universe is now in pre-production at Amazon, slated for a 2026 release in theaters, and Matchbox has received the green light at Apple with John Cena set to star. Although a Barbie sequel remains uncertain (if even a possibility), Mattel’s extensive toy collection is being considered for future projects, including Uno!
Still waiting on a call from … “My future self.”
Barbara Broccoli
CO-OWNER, EON PRODUCTIONS
As a gamer, I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for the announcement about who will take on the role of the next James Bond. Broccoli and her sibling Michael Wilson, the masterminds behind the Bond empire, have made their decision, but they’re keeping us guessing for now. In the meantime, they’re using their incredible producing skills to bring John Carney’s musical “Sing Street” from off-Broadway to London’s West End, hoping to recreate the magic they achieved with Carney’s “Once”. I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
Nicole Brown
PRESIDENT, TRISTAR PICTURES
Brown enjoys the liberty to create both extravagant blockbuster movies and more intimate productions, such as this year’s low-key drama “Here“, which brings director Robert Zemeckis together with his co-stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright from “Forrest Gump“. Future projects include a buddy comedy titled “One of Them Days“, produced by Issa Rae and starring Keke Palmer and SZA, a fresh take on the classic mystery game “Clue“, and an intense stage-to-screen adaptation of “Guys and Dolls” directed by Rob Marshall, who is known for his expertise in transitioning shows to the screen.
Fictional character I most identify with these days “All of the feelings from Inside Out 2.”
Quinta Brunson
ACTOR, WRITER & PRODUCER
With “Abbott Elementary” consistently performing well in ratings, gaining cultural significance for a broadcast sitcom, and receiving Emmy recognition, its lead actress is now ready to expand her reach. She recently established the feature film “Par for the Course” at Universal. As expected, it’s a comedy, with her appearing alongside Stephanie Hsu, and she will also be writing and producing the project along with her collaborator from “Abbott,” Justin Tan.

Karey Burke, Gina Balian, Ayo Davis, Tara Duncan , Courteney Monroe & Simran Sethi
The individual holds the position of President in multiple entertainment companies: FX Entertainment, 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, Onyx Collective, National Geographic Content, and for Scripted content at Hulu and ABC Entertainment.
At Disney Television, it takes a community to succeed, and this community is primarily led by women. Here are six influential executives who contribute significantly to the diverse television lineup that generates revenue for their parent company:
My favorite fictional character I feel the most connected to right now is Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation,” particularly in season two, while others might say Murphy Brown or Jane Craig from “Broadcast News.
If I were a man with this job …
Balian: “I’d be Nick Grad.”
How I’m keeping composed at the moment: “Focusing my energies on significant actions and strengthening bonds.
Still waiting on a call from …
Monroe: “Good Morning America, with an offer to join as a host.”
Kathryn Busby
HEAD OF PROGRAMMING, STARZ
With her platform preparing to officially split from its parent company Lionsgate, Busby is steadily expanding on franchises such as Power and Outlander (back following a long hiatus), along with some of the network’s classic titles. Recently, a spin-off series for Spartacus, which concluded in 2013, has commenced production in New Zealand.
My professional crush “Cord Jefferson.”
“In my 2025 Hollywood forecast, it’s the genuine productions, rather than those backed by large budgets, that will capture the audience’s attention.”
Kelly Campbell
PRESIDENT, PEACOCK
Despite currently experiencing financial losses with her streamer, she’s making progress thanks to growing revenue (particularly boosted by the Olympics!) and an increase in subscribers up to 36 million. Peacock appears to be moving in the right direction. This is also evident as NBCU continues to prioritize it, even going so far as to end its relationship with cable. Recent achievements include breaking a livestreaming record with the NFL Wild Card playoff game (27 million viewers), winning an Emmy for “The Traitors,” and the announcement of a forthcoming revamp of “The Office” – though it’s important to note that calling this a reboot of “The Office” is strictly forbidden.

Daria Cercek
CO-PRESIDENT, PARAMOUNT MOTION PICTURE GROUP
Despite the widespread concerns about the demise of cinema, Cercek and Paramount had quite a successful year in movie theaters. For instance, the film musical adaptation of “Mean Girls,” which was initially planned for streaming, surprisingly brought in over $100 million globally. Similarly, “Bob Marley: One Love” made $181 million. Remarkably, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” a spinoff, achieved the best domestic opening for its franchise ($52 million that eventually amounted to $262 million worldwide). The year concludes with a promising start for “Gladiator II.
These days, I find myself most resonating with Sonic the Hedgehog’s fast-paced energy as my go-to strategy for maintaining balance.
A secret I’ve found helpful to keep my cool: It seems everyone else is finding their inner calm too!
Margie Cohn
PRESIDENT, DREAMWORKS ANIMATION
After Jennifer Lee’s departure from Walt Disney Animation, Cohn now stands as one of the rare female leaders at an animation studio, a position that seems fitting given her impressive track record. Notably, DreamWorks experienced one of its most prosperous periods in recent times, with the original animated film “The Wild Robot” earning critical acclaim and amassing $300 million globally, while the latest “Kung Fu Panda” installment grossed an impressive $550 million. Upcoming projects for Cohn include a return to the “Shrek” franchise, with the fifth movie slated for release in 2026.
My most played song of 2024 “Chappell Roan’s ‘Hot to Go!’ Incredible earworm.”
“The entertainment industry’s lesson from President Trump’s re-election should be … “Pay attention to your public. They’re clearly communicating their preferences.
Alex Cooper
PODCASTER & CO-FOUNDER, TRENDING MEDIA CO.
From her start at Barstool, Cooper has moved beyond being simply a podcaster – even though the success of ‘Call Her Daddy’ secured her a whopping $125 million, three-year contract with SiriusXM. She is undeniably one of the most influential women in this field, which is why she was invited by NBCUniversal to attract younger audiences to the Olympics through Peacock watch parties. As her focus shifts towards Hollywood, Cooper and her husband, producer Matt Kaplan, are expanding and strengthening their company, Trending Media Co., geared towards Gen Z.
“One strategy I’m using to remain composed at the moment is finding solace in a comfortable spot with my Kindle and an ample supply of treats.”
“The entertainment industry ought to continue discussions about women’s rights following Trump’s re-election.”
Maha Dakhil, Tiffany Ward & Ida Ziniti
AGENTS, CAA
Throughout the year, Dakhil managed a roster that included stars like Tom Cruise, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, among others, keeping them quite occupied. The standout achievement of this year, however, was Denis Villeneuve’s $711 million-grossing film “Dune: Part Two”.
My trick to staying calm right now
Dakhil: “Listening to the elders.”
Ward: “Strength training.”
Ziniti: “Tea, sauna, yoga and a good ole fashioned work grind.”
The tune I listened to most frequently in 2024 would be…
Marissa Devins, Blair Kohan & Rena Ronson
AGENTS, UTA
This year, Devins brought on board Richard Gadd, star of “Baby Reindeer,” ahead of his Netflix deal. He now joins an impressive lineup that already includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge from “Tomb Raider” and the duo Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson behind “Yellowjackets.” Kohan’s deals were numerous, but some notable ones include securing an eight-figure deal for Paul Rudd to star in the “Anaconda” reboot and selling Colleen Hoover’s novel “Reminders of Him” to Universal. As for Ronson, the head of independent films, he sold the acclaimed Sundance documentary “Will & Harper” to Netflix and helped structure financing for the Chris Pratt project “Way of the Warrior Kid,” which was later sold to Skydance and Apple for a whopping $85 million.
Hollywood’s takeaway from Trump’s re-election should be …
Devins: “Looks like we’re gonna need a lot more comedies!”
Ronson: “Hopefully the streamers and studios don’t shy away from our truth-to-power stories, as we know these films can shape culture.”
My professional crush
Kohan: “Always Sherry Lansing.”
“If I were doing that particular job, I’d…” Translation: “Given the role I’m in, I would…
Nina Diaz
CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER, SHOWTIME/ MTV STUDIOS, PARAMOUNT NETWORKS
Ever since “scripted” projects were included in her schedule prior to the merger of Paramount, Diaz has introduced political thriller “The Agency” and the “Original Sin” prequel for Showtime (or perhaps Paramount with Showtime, it’s unclear at this moment). The eyebrow-raising experimental project, “The Curse,” featuring Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder, also falls under her portfolio. Notably, the much-anticipated return of “Yellowjackets” is expected in early 2025.
The tune I’ve spun the most in 2024 was none other than ‘Not Like Us,’ by Kendrick Lamar.
Kristin Dolan
CEO, AMC NETWORKS
2023 marked the year when Dolan assumed leadership over the renowned streaming portfolio. Since then, he has emphasized strategies that prove effective: producing fresh installments of “The Walking Dead” and distributing them through Netflix for profitable second releases. Additionally, content licensing experienced a significant surge by 31%, contributing to the company exceeding its projected earnings as it also managed to acquire full ownership of BBC America from the British stakeholders.
“The fictional character I resonate most with at present is Kate Wyler, from ‘The Diplomat.’
Fran Drescher
ACTOR & PRESIDENT, SAG-AFTRA
A year following the conclusion of SAG-AFTRA’s significant actors strike, its president continues to be actively involved in labor activism. More recently, the union initiated a work stoppage against prominent video game companies over the matter of AI usage in entertainment. Additionally, they successfully pushed for legal protections concerning AI for performers within California state law. In the coming days, Drescher is expected to reappear on the big screen with roles in Josh Safdie’s A24 film “Marty Supreme” and Rob Reiner’s “Spinal Tap II”.
My secret method for staying composed at the moment “Arranging blooms is my go-to technique. Buddhist teachings often guide me. Holy basil supplements are my last resort when all else fails.
Channing Dungey
CHAIR, WARNER BROS. TELEVISION GROUP
In 2025, the responsibilities of TV executive Dungey expanded, as she took charge of overseeing more than a dozen channels within Warner Bros. Discovery’s substantial cable collection. This was in addition to her role in managing nearly ninety ongoing series, supplying content not only to sister companies like Max (home to shows like The Penguin and the upcoming HBO project Lanterns) but also to external platforms. Apple TV+ is currently preparing for season four of Ted Lasso, while WBTV has recently seen success with summer hits such as Presumed Innocent and Bad Monkey on their platform.
Meanwhile, I’m still hoping to hear from… “The one I had a crush on during my childhood.
My 2025 Hollywood prediction “Any prediction made today has a 50-50 shot at accuracy.”
Ava DuVernay
FILMMAKER & FOUNDER, ARRAY
Though DuVernay hasn’t disclosed her next directorial project (her latest being 2023’s “Origin”), her creative team Array is consistently addressing industry gaps. The Array Crew links underrepresented crew members with opportunities, while Array Releasing bridges the gap between unrecognized filmmakers and viewers – a crucial link as independent films increasingly struggle to secure distribution beyond film festivals.
Ayo Edebiri
The prominent actress who shines brightly in the show “The Bear” has been a highly sought-after talent for several years now, and she seems to be carefully selecting her roles. Lately, she’s worked on movies directed by Luca Guadagnino (“After the Hunt”) and James L. Brooks (“Ella McCay”). When not seen in chef attire in Chicago, she can often be heard providing her voice for shows like “Big Mouth”, “Inside Out 2”, and “Clone High”, or stealing the spotlight with one of the most memorable Saturday Night Live sketches of the year, such as “School Hypnotist” (a sketch you should definitely look up).
Jessica Elbaum
PRODUCER, GLORIA SANCHEZ PRODUCTIONS
In 2024, the duo Will & Harper has become a favorite among movie doctors. Therefore, Will Ferrell, partnering with producer Adam McKay, will return to acting roles in January. This is when his romantic comedy titled “You’re Cordially Invited,” starring Reese Witherspoon, will be available on Prime Video. Before that, however, viewers can look forward to Liz Feldman’s sequel to “Dead to Me” – the Netflix comedy series “No Good Deed,” which is set to premiere on December 12, providing an appealing choice in the lead-up to the holiday season.
I’ve long admired professionally, “Dolly Parton.” [Editor’s note: Elbaum often acknowledges Parton annually. Dolly, if you’re reading this, let’s connect.]
Amy Entelis
EXEC VP, TALENT & CNN ORIGINALS
Amidst the turbulent times at CNN, Entelis stands as a tranquil oasis, serving as the network’s lifeline to Hollywood. While the previous CEO Chris Licht aimed to reduce CNN’s original programming plans, the new head, Mark Thompson, is working on rejuvenating them. Entelis has played a crucial role in the creation of an American edition of the BBC comedy talk show “Have I Got News for You“, and series like “TV on the Edge” and “How It Really Happened“. Additionally, CNN has been involved in producing and acquiring documentaries such as “MisinfoNation” and “Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid“.
“To keep my cool right now, I’m engrossed in playing the New York Times Spelling Bee.
Emerald Fennell
FILMMAKER
Among the town’s highly sought-after filmmakers, Fennell has gained significant acclaim following her Oscar victory for “Promising Young Woman” and the impactful release of “Saltburn.” The latter, featuring the 2024 chart-topping hit “Murder on the Dance Floor,” tarnished the image of bathtub drains. The ensuing frenzy in Hollywood for Fennell’s upcoming project has been immense. Collaborating once more with Margot Robbie and her production company, LuckyChap, Fennell is now set to write and direct a fresh interpretation of “Wuthering Heights,” with Jacob Elordi, known for his role in “Euphoria,” taking on the lead.
Elaine Frontain Bryant
EXEC VP & HEAD OF PROGRAMMING, A&E, LIFETIME & LMN
Frontain Bryant’s collection of true-crime series consistently maintains its popularity, with titles like “Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test” on A&E, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard” and “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup” on Lifetime. These productions were particularly profitable for the networks in 2024.
“The song I listened to the most in 2024 was ‘Tennessee Orange’ by Megan Moroney. Interestingly enough, I found myself playing her entire album, [Lucky], quite frequently as well.”>
Still waiting on a call from … “Diana Ross, saying she wants Lifetime to do her biography.”
Liz Garbus
FILMMAKER & FOUNDER, STORY SYNDICATE
Despite her expanding directorial role in Hollywood productions like the upcoming “Good American Family” on Hulu, she remains active in documentary filmmaking through her company, Story Syndicate. Recent projects under this label include “Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara.
If I were a man with this job … “I’d be richer.”
Dany Garcia
PRESIDENT, SEVEN BUCKS PRODUCTIONS
Garcia, a dynamic business leader, oversees Seven Bucks Production, a company she started alongside her former husband Dwayne Johnson. This year, they released Amazon’s debated yet sparsely-attended Christmas film titled “Red One,” and a live-action version of “Moana” is in the pipeline, with many more projects under development. Additionally, there’s the expansive branding sector, encompassing energy drink Zoa, tequila Teremana, an Under Armour line, and the revival of the football league UFL that belongs to Johnson.
A call from … is yet to come, it’s about discussing Whoopi Goldberg’s new All-Women Sports Network.
Dede Gardner
PARTNER, PLAN B ENTERTAINMENT
In 2024, the production company co-managed by Gardner, Brad Pitt, and Jeremy Kleiner presented a diverse slate of projects. These ranged from Paramount’s successful biopic Bob Marley: One Love, to Netflix’s hit sci-fi series 3 Body Problem; the sequel to Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice which grossed $451 million; and the critically acclaimed Amazon release Nickel Boys. Next year, they plan to deliver Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming film Mickey 17, Brad Pitt’s F1, and Nia DaCosta’s adaptation of Hedda Gabler.
Greta Gerwig
ACTOR & FILMMAKER
Following the success of Barbie that revitalized Hollywood in 2023, garnering $1.45 billion and eight Oscar nominations for Greta Gerwig’s vibrant tribute to cinema, she retreated to her creative studio to plan an expensive Narnia movie for Netflix. However, she briefly surfaced in 2024 to shoot her husband Noah Baumbach’s unnamed, enigmatic film, also produced by Netflix.
Nikki Glaser
ACTOR, COMIC, HOST & WRITER
Tom Brady may have proved too sensitive to be on the receiving end of a roast, but Netflix’s high-profile sendup of the quarterback turned trying-really-hard commentator was nothing to regret for this comic. Glaser, long a successful touring comedian with a slew of specials and TV gigs, seemed to coast just outside the zeitgeist until her scene-stealing appearance on the May special. She’s been on a roll ever since. Six days later, she dropped Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die on Max, now the most watched original stand-up special in the streamer’s history. In August, the Golden Globes announced she’ll host the 2025 telecast — a move that will hopefully erase Jo Koy’s 2024 gig from our collective memory.
“The character I find myself relating to at the moment is Demi Moore’s from The Substance, as it seems, based on what I know.
Dana Goldberg
CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER, SKYDANCE MEDIA
The future implications of Skydance’s merger with Paramount, post-2025, remain undisclosed in the M&A landscape, but Goldberg’s proven knack for taste at David Ellison’s studio could be a positive sign. She played a significant role in making Skydance the sole independent studio to top two streaming platforms simultaneously with the films “The Family Plan” (Apple TV+) and “Reacher” (Prime Video). Among her numerous upcoming projects, noteworthy mentions include an action-comedy series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham (for Prime, in a bidding war win), as well as the feature film “Mayday,” featuring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, for Apple.
“Hollywood’s lesson from Trump’s re-election should be to disregard overreliance on polls.”
“My 2025 Hollywood forecast: The demise of cinema has been greatly exaggerated.”
Kira Goldberg & Hannah Minghella
VP FILM, NETFLIX; HEAD OF FEATURE ANIMATION AND LIVE-ACTION FAMILY FILM, NETFLIX
The top two female executives at Netflix, Teddy Minghella and Betsy Goldberg, wield significant power within the company’s film division. Upcoming projects under their supervision include:
Here’s one way to rephrase the given text in natural and easy-to-read language:
Selena Gomez
ACTOR, SINGER & PRODUCER
Is there any field where Gomez can’t excel? Kicking off the year with a song that didn’t get enough recognition (let’s give it up for “Love On!”), the recently titled Rare Beauty billionaire earned Emmy nominations for acting in and producing Only Murders in the Building, unveiled a season packed with stars for its fourth installment, and graced the screen at Cannes alongside Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña in Emilia Pérez. This year, she was recognized by THR with their Equity in Entertainment Award. Her Rare Impact Fund is directing $100 million towards enhancing global youth mental health services and promoting education on the topic.
Salma Hayek
ACTOR & PRODUCER
At present, Salma Hayek is involved in the making of “Sacrifice,” an action-adventure comedy where she acts alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans. This role adds to her impressive portfolio as a producer. Her serial adaptation of “Like Water for Chocolate” for HBO has been captivating critics recently. Additionally, it’s been a year since François-Henri Pinault’s investment firm, Artémis, gained a significant control over CAA. This move benefits Hayek too, as she is already one of the agency’s prominent clients.
In my profession, the person I admire most is…“Anthony Hopkins.
Still waiting on a call from … “Christopher Nolan.” [Editor’s note: Chris, pick up the phone.]
Cindy Holland
ADVISER, SKYDANCE
It remains unclear what specific part Holland will play in assisting David Ellison with the Paramount deal, or what role she may assume once the merger is completed. However, by bringing on Holland, who has been largely recognized for making Netflix a prestigious platform (before her unexpected departure in 2020), Ellison is undeniably sending a message to the creative community.
Regarding my professional admiration: “I’m torn between Natasha Lyonne and Brit Marling, a dilemma I can’t seem to resolve.
Colleen Hoover
AUTHOR & PRODUCER
Following the extraordinary success of the Hoover adaptation titled “It Ends With Us” in 2024, earning a domestic gross of $148 million and an additional $200 million internationally, the author’s works have since become highly sought after in Hollywood. Almost every studio is vying for a share, with Amazon supporting “Verity,” starring Anne Hathaway, and Universal confidently scheduling “Reminders of Him” for a 2026 release date even without a confirmed cast. Hoover’s popularity seems to be approaching the levels of Gillian Flynn and Liane Moriarty.
Jinny Howe & Tracey Pakosta
VP DRAMA SERIES, NETFLIX; VP COMEDY SERIES, NETFLIX
In the past nine months, Howe oversaw some of the streamer’s most significant deals such as Shondaland, Duffer brothers, Bridgerton season three, Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Nicole Kidman’s The Perfect Couple, and Emmy-winning Ripley. Meanwhile, Pakosta continues to play a crucial role in Netflix’s comedy push off-screen with the launch of 242 shows as part of Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival, including John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in L.A., spanning over 12 days. Her team is also the leading buyer of specials, with notable comedians like Ali Wong, Hannah Gadsby, Ellen DeGeneres, Dave Chappelle, and Joe Rogan releasing new content. However, it’s important to note that Joe Rogan has no relevance to this discussion.
“Indulging in fantasies about upcoming family vacations and dreamy escapades with companions, akin to savoring Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond ice cream.
Still waiting on a call from …
Howe: “Sofia Coppola.”
Pakosta: “The high school attendance office.”
Pearlena Igbokwe
CHAIR, UNIVERSAL STUDIO GROUP
In this role, Igbokwe oversees four television studios under NBCU (Universal Television, UCP, Universal Television Alternative Studio, and Universal International Studios). During her three-year tenure at the helm of the group, she has increased revenue, expanded series output to over 100 airing globally, and is in charge of five of the top 10 scripted series on broadcast. Notably, she manages a roster of female talent that includes Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Debra Martin Chase, Nahnatchka Khan, Jenna Bush Hager, and Mariska Hargitay, most of whom are not associated with Fox News. However, Dick Wolf stands out as an exception due to his popularity in the cop genre.
Character I feel closest to at present “Lucy Ricardo, rushing to wrap up the chocolates before they pass by on a conveyor belt, often finding myself eating some along the way to keep pace. Does that paint a vivid enough picture?
Nina Jacobson
PRODUCER, COLOR FORCE
Over the past year, Jacobson’s production company in collaboration with Brad Simpson has been quite active. They introduced new series titled “Clipped” on FX for Hulu, initiated a potential franchise named “American Sports Story” alongside Ryan Murphy at FX, and are adapting Patrick Radden Keefe’s book “Say Nothing” for Hulu. In the cinematic sphere, there’s news about a new installment in Suzanne Collins’ “Hunger Games” series, and there are whispers that the long-stalled sequel to “Crazy Rich Asians” might soon begin production.
Mindy Kaling
ACTOR, WRITER & PRODUCER
At the moment, Kaling is deeply immersed in her writing projects – most recently finalizing the comeback of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” and polishing the Kate Hudson NBA comedy “Running Point” for Netflix. It’s worth mentioning that, in a challenging time for selling comedies, the producer of Warner Bros.’ origin had several bidders for her sitcom “Murray Hill“. Hulu secured it with a script-to-series commitment. (She has also recently joined the live-action short “Anuja” as a producer, which could boost its chances at the Oscars.)
How I keep my cool these days “Online shopping helps me stay calm – I can remember credit card numbers quicker than lines.
The director whose work I admire the most is Greta Gerwig, although our professional relationship remains non-existent.
Theresa Kang
CEO, BLUE MARBLE PICTURES
Over the past four years, Kang has thrived since departing her career as an agent to establish her own production and management company. She’s tasted success with a series of high-profile projects, such as the adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s novel Pachinko, now streaming its second season on Apple TV+, and the forthcoming HBO project Dark Places. Her impressive clientele includes Lena Waithe, Gillian Flynn, Alfonso Cuarón, whose first series, Cate Blanchett’s Disclaimer, debuted on Apple TV+.
My trick to staying calm right now “Learning something new. Right now taking Spanish lessons.”
My professional crush “Steve Golin, to this day.”
Kim Kardashian
ACTOR & PRODUCER
Over the last 15 years, reality TV, fashion, and shapewear have been part of Kim Kardashian’s journey, with occasional forays into criminal justice. Now, she aims to explore a more conventional Hollywood pursuit: acting. Following her performance in “American Horror Story: Delicate”, she will join another Ryan Murphy series, the legal drama “All’s Fair“, as an executive producer. Additionally, Kim is set to feature in the Netflix comedy “The Fifth Wheel“, a production by Paula Pell and Janine Brito.
Lisa Katz
PRESIDENT, SCRIPTED CONTENT, NBCUNIVERSAL ENTERTAINMENT
This former drama chief, now responsible for programming both NBC and Peacock, has added shows like “Poker Face”, “Fight Night”, “Ted”, and the recently renewed “The Day of the Jackal” to their streaming service. Meanwhile, she’s supplied her broadcast network with uncommon non-Dick Wolf content such as “Found”, “Irrational”, and, a priority for the company, the comedy “St. Denis Medical”. She has also approved the production of Greg Daniels’ upcoming sitcom, which is not technically a reboot of “The Office”.
My trick to staying calm right now “Yoga and Duolingo”
My 2025 Hollywood prediction “Fewer networks but more episodes (with commercials).”
Kathleen Kennedy
PRESIDENT, LUCASFILM
In spite of occasional delays in features and mixed results on streaming series, Kennedy, the driving force behind Hollywood’s most significant non-Marvel intellectual property, continues to push forward towards that distant galaxy. Jon Favreau is currently working on the first _Star Wars_ film in several years, titled _The Mandalorian & Grogu_, and a second season of _Andor_ (widely regarded as the best of the series) is set to return in 2025. Moreover, it was recently announced that Simon Kinberg will pen and produce a new trilogy – but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard such plans.
Paula Kerger
CEO, PBS
Despite not being flashy or boasting the largest viewership, PBS continues to be a crucial player among American programmers. It might not hold the title of the biggest spender, but with a Trump administration that seems less supportive of public media set to return to power, the longest-serving leader in its history will once again need to advocate vigorously to keep educational and children’s programming on over 300 local stations. Many of these stations cater to rural communities lacking broadband internet access.
“My 2025 Hollywood Prediction: Rapid Evolution and Uproar.” – This paraphrase maintains the original’s essence by conveying a sense of accelerated change and disruption in the film industry, using more dynamic language that’s easier to read.
Aleen Keshishian
CEO, LIGHTHOUSE MANAGEMENT + MEDIA
One of the highly accomplished manager-producers in Hollywood, Keshishian placed client Selena Gomez in “Emilia Pérez”, convinced Gwyneth Paltrow to resume acting alongside Timothée Chalamet in Josh Safdie’s “Marty”, produced Olivia Rodrigo’s “GUTS World Tour” for Netflix and arranged the production of “Black Rabbit” at Netflix, where Jason Bateman stars, directs, and produces. Additionally, she manages Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, and several other well-known actors, although keeping track is not always an easy task!
My trick to staying calm right now “Astro Burger drive-through.”
Nicole Kidman
ACTOR & PRODUCER, BLOSSOM FILMS
If you haven’t read Kidman’s feature interview yet, head straight to this page without stopping at any other. No need to gather a monetary reward of $200 along the way.
Nicole King & Stacy O’Neil
CO-FOUNDERS, LINDEN ENTERTAINMENT
Together with their associate JoAnne Colonna, King and O’Neil have significantly expanded their management and production company. Notably, King has spearheaded Jennifer Garner’s successful business ventures, while O’Neil collaborated with Bond Entertainment Group, a company co-founded by client Amy Adams, to produce Marielle Heller’s film “Nightbitch”. In June, the project “Stereophonic” under Linden Productions won five Tony Awards, including the award for best play.
I’m yet to receive a call from …
King: “I’m still waiting for a call from Ina Garten.”
O’Neil: “I’m expecting a call from Bruce Springsteen.”
The fictional character I feel most connected to these days
King: “My daughters describe me as being a mix of Buzz Lightyear, the Road Runner, and a dash of Maleficent.”
O’Neil:”I relate to Nancy Drew — with teenage twins at home, I’m always trying to uncover the truth behind their secrets.”
Deborah Klein, Tara Kole, Gretchen Rush & Nina Shaw
ATTORNEYS
In a recent turn of events, Klein has confirmed one of the few details about ‘Avengers 5’, which is Paul Rudd’s involvement. This decision was made following Vince Vaughn’s performance in ‘Bad Monkey’ and securing Samuel L. Jackson for both ‘Fight Night’ and ‘The Piano Lesson’. Meanwhile, Kole has managed to secure Josh O’Connor as the lead actor in Kelly Reichardt’s upcoming film titled ‘The Mastermind’, and arranged Charles Melton’s deal to join the next season of ‘Beef’. Noteworthy deals for Rush involve Jennifer Lawrence taking on a starring role and production duties for Lynne Ramsay’s thriller ‘Die, My Love’, as well as extending Ellen Pompeo’s long-term contract for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Shaw has also reported success with Lupita Nyong’o, securing her roles in both ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ and ‘The Wild Robot’.
My 2025 Hollywood prediction
Kole: “FAST TV will continue to explode.”
My most played song of 2024
Rush: ” ‘One of Your Girls,’ by Troye Sivan.”
Veronika Kwan Vandenberg
PRESIDENT OF DISTRIBUTION, UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL
In 2023, the solitary female executive in charge of distribution for the town’s greenlight committee played a significant role in helping her studio dethrone Disney and claim the top spot in global market share. This achievement was largely due to the success of the film “Oppenheimer.” Similarly to how it won the Best Picture Oscar, “Wicked,” this year’s Thanksgiving release, isn’t initially perceived as a hit overseas; however, it has started off strongly in international markets with earnings of $97 million by December 1.
My trick to staying calm right now “An ice bath.”
Donna Langley
CHAIR, NBCUNIVERSAL ENTERTAINMENT AND STUDIOS
Year after year, the most influential female film executive in Hollywood gathers more power within her media corporation. Following the separation of its cable division, this company elevated Langley to oversee greenlight decisions across TV, streaming, and cinema on a corporate level. In terms of her cinematic productions, her team holds 21% of the domestic market share, grossed approximately $5 billion at the global box office in the last year, received a Best Picture Oscar nomination for 2024 (along with six others) for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”, and launched the holiday movie season with a staggering $359.9 million (and still counting) worldwide gross for “Wicked”.
“What keeps me composed at the moment is concentrating on what I have control over, as well as finding ways to support the people in my environment.”
Jennifer Lawrence
ACTOR & PRODUCER, EXCELLENT CADAVER
As a passionate gamer immersed in the world of entertainment, I’m pumped about Lawrence doubling down on her producing endeavors. With projects like Excellent Cadaver, she’s lending her influence to movies like Zurawski v Texas and Bread and Roses, shedding light on women’s struggles under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. Next up, she’s set to star in Die, My Love, followed by a unique blend of business and fun as she produces an A24 murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives franchise. To keep my cool, I’m skipping cable news.
My professional crush “Saoirse Ronan. She’s extremely talented and makes bold choices.”
Miky Lee
VICE CHAIR, CJ GROUP
The influential figure with a wealth of ideas is consistently creating more English content, serving as the American representative for her South Korean corporation. As a producer, Lee has been responsible for new seasons of ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘The Big Door Prize’, both released in 2024. In addition, she has a film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, titled ‘Bugonia’, featuring Emma Stone, scheduled for 2025, which coincides with awards season.
Meg LeFauve
WRITER
In the creation of “Inside Out 2”, Lefauve played a pivotal role and was one of the key team members, being the only prominent woman in the group. This movie, which earned an impressive $1.7 billion worldwide, broke records by becoming not just the highest-grossing film of the year, but also the highest-grossing animated film ever made, and it ranked as the 8th highest-grossing movie of all time. When it was released on Disney+, it attracted a whopping 30.5 million views in just its first five days, making it the most popular film on the streaming service at that time. That’s quite an impressive list of achievements!
In this moment, I might appear composed, but it’s more of a facade. The truth is, anxiety is steering the ship, yet joy is standing by ready to help. All I need to do is take deep breaths and search for the radiance that exists within my life.
Blake Lively
ACTOR & PRODUCER
Lively vehicle It Ends With Us filled the proverbial watercooler on multiple fronts, most notably luring female audiences in droves and scoring nearly $350 million at the global box office this summer. It’s a best-case scenario for her producorial debut, as she used the expansive press tour to push her budding businesses (sparkling soda company Betty Buzz, alcohol operation Betty Booze, hair-care line Blake Brown). Next up on the acting front: The sequel to A Simple Favor.
The song I’ve listened to the most in 2024 is ‘Baby Shark, Dance Remix.’ I have a one-year-old, so it’s both a delightful heaven and a musically challenging hell.
My 2025 Hollywood prediction “More films by women, for women, about women, being greenlit and made. Women show up to the theaters for female genres, even though Hollywood seemingly forgot that for a while. Women are quite literally kicking ass in male genres — but when we give women roles exploring the female experience in female genres, we will come in droves to see it. And not alone. They bring friends, other genders and show up and reward a studio with repeated viewings. Make it great. Make it human. Make it emotional. And people will come.”
Eva Longoria
ACTOR & FILMMAKER
Currently divided between Spain and Mexico, Longoria remains a significant figure in Hollywood. She’s recently featured in “Land of Women” and “Only Murders in the Building,” where she portrayed Selena Gomez’s character, Mabel, on-screen. As a producer, she’s working on numerous Spanish-language projects in various stages of production and development. A year after co-founding Hyphenate Media Group with longtime friend Cris Abrego, Longoria has also recruited renowned writer-director-producer Gloria Calderón Kellett to join the company as chief creative officer.
If I were in the role of this occupation, I might not handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Jennifer Lopez
ACTOR, SINGER & PRODUCER
Listen, nobody’s saying Lopez had a marquee year. Quite the opposite. Concept album and companion film This Is Me … Now was a gamble that just didn’t pay off, she canceled a summer tour, and her personal life occupied an oversized amount of tabloid attention. But Netflix movie Atlas pulled in 77 million viewers, prompting the streamer to buy her rom-com with Brett Goldstein. Her performance in TIFF sports drama Unstoppable earned positive reviews. And she’s been pretty candid about the bumps along the way. Real ones recover quick.
Kristie Macosko Krieger
PRODUCER, AMBLIN PARTNERS
For Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film with Universal, details about the plot are being kept under wraps, but indications suggest it could be his first major production since 2018’s “Ready Player One.” Macosko Krieger has been a long-time producer for Spielberg, and this project already boasts an impressive cast that includes Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson.
The song I listened to the most in 2024 was “Not My Fault,” performed by Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion.
Alana Mayo & Julie Rapaport
HEAD, ORION PICTURES; HEAD OF FILM, DEVELOPMENT &PRODUCTION, AMAZON MGM STUDIOS
Compared to action film “Road House” and Anne Hathaway’s romantic drama “The Idea of You”, it is clear that Amazon’s film lineup had an exceptional year, excluding the underperformance at the box office of “Red One”. Rapaport oversaw the remake featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, which went on to become Amazon’s most-watched original feature film to date. Meanwhile, Mayo’s Orion studio released “Nickel Boys” this year, following their Oscar-winning “American Fiction”, and they have Nia DaCosta’s adaptation of Hedda Gabler ready for release.
Regarding my 2025 Hollywood forecast:
Ramsey Naito
PRESIDENT OF ANIMATION, PARAMOUNT AND NICKELODEON
Naito’s division develops fresh studio franchises, such as the PAW Patrol movies, and breathes new life into intellectual properties that were once underperforming. This was evident when the 2023 hit film Mutant Mayhem led to both a sequel movie and a Paramount+ series. Meanwhile, Paramount’s beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series is being adapted into movies, with a spin-off feature slated for release in 2026.
The song I listened to the most in 2024 was ‘To You,’ by Willow Smith, which was also created by my son, Antonio Mollura!
Lauren Neustadter & Reese Witherspoon
PRESIDENT OF FILM AND TV, HELLO SUNSHINE; ACTOR, PRODUCER & FOUNDER, HELLO SUNSHINE
2021 was quite a whirlwind for me as a gamer, or rather, an actress. While I was deeply engrossed in filming the latest season of The Morning Show, which earned me Emmy nominations for both acting and producing, I also managed to set the stage for a prequel series of Legally Blonde at Amazon. Additionally, I launched a few unscripted projects on different streaming platforms (finally, The Pasta Queen has her own show!). With Neustadter leading the creative direction, we’re all geared up to start 2025 with a bang – a feature comedy titled You’re Cordially Invited.
Eagerly anticipating a call from the brilliant Greta Gerwig, ready to collaborate on any project she has in mind.
Fictional character I most identify with these days
Neustadter: “Bluey’s mom, Chilli.”
Witherspoon: “Right now I’m channeling Elle Woods — she has a pretty undefeatable spirit.”
My professional crush
Neustadter: “Celeste Ng. Her writing moves me beyond words.”
Michelle Obama
CO-FOUNDER, HIGHER GROUND
Changes have taken place in the leadership of the former first lady’s production company, yet the quality and unpredictability of their output remain unaltered. Recently, Higher Ground has ventured into various genres, including a thriller adaptation of “Leave the World Behind“, a low-key dark comedy about true-crime podcasts titled “Bodkin“, a sports documentary series starring LeBron James called “Starting 5“, and an acclaimed documentary feature, “American Symphony“, which was just nominated for two Grammys last year.
Jenna Ortega
ACTOR & PRODUCER
For individuals who might have considered Ortega’s success following the popular reboot of Scream and the sensation caused by Wednesday as a fleeting trend, the acclaim for Beetlejuice likely put an end to any lingering doubts. Not only did she modernize the sequel for the 21st century, her high-profile co-stars sang her praises throughout the press tour. The second season of Wednesday, where Ortega will also serve as a producer, is planned for 2025, along with Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun, in which she will also star.
Mary Parent
VICE CHAIR, WORLDWIDE PRODUCTION, LEGENDARY
As the overseer of blockbuster monster movies like “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and sci-fi series such as “Dune”, Parent’s box office earnings for 2024 are projected to surpass $1 billion. Despite the initial hurdle faced by the first “Dune” movie with a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release due to Warner’s previous strategy, the producer successfully navigated this challenge, leading “Dune: Part Two” to amass an impressive $714 million in global box office sales this year, making it a strong contender for awards. Upcoming on their schedule is the first film based on the widely popular game “Minecraft”, featuring stars like Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Danielle Brooks.
If I were a man with this job … “I’d never have to check a bag.”
My 2025 Hollywood prediction “Fear will probably still be too prevalent, unfortunately.”
Amy Pascal
PRODUCER, PASCAL PICTURES
Pascal, the driving force behind Spider-Man, continues to deliver successes even amidst box office setbacks such as “Venom: The Last Dance”. She’s responsible for productions like the animated “Spider-Verse” films and Tom Holland’s live-action series. This year, she released “Challengers” and “Goodrich”, and will soon collaborate with Christopher Lord, Phil Miller, Noah Baumbach, and Greta Gerwig on their upcoming projects.
Person in my professional field whom I admire the most: Martha Stewart.
Cynthia Pett
CO-CEO, BRILLSTEIN ENTERTAINMENT PARTNERS
Amongst the numerous clients and their fresh ventures, some noteworthy ones include Brad Pitt (in “Wolves”), potential Bond candidate Aaron Taylor-Johnson (playing Kraven the Hunter), Charlie Hunnam (for Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters”), Elizabeth Olsen (in “His Three Daughters”), and Kyle Chandler (in “Lanterns”). However, one of the most intriguing developments could be Eve Hewson and her busy schedule. The daughter of Bono is swiftly making a name for herself as a rising star – she’s been sparring with Nicole Kidman in Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple”, returning for another season of Sharon Horgan’s “Bad Sisters”, and landing the upcoming Steven Spielberg film.
I’m yet to receive a call from … “Robert Plant.
Katherine Pope
PRESIDENT, SONY PICTURES TELEVISION STUDIOS
This year, Pope is managing over 40 projects at Sony’s versatile studio in her second year there. One of the most remarkable among them might be “The Boys”. The latest season of Eric Kripke’s satire outperformed its predecessors and became the fourth most-watched series on Amazon ever. Apart from finalizing new talent agreements with Ron Moore, Kumail Nanjiani, Gail Berman, and others, Pope and her team were finishing up work on the eagerly awaited revival of HBO’s “The Last of Us”.
Instead of “Still waiting on a call from …”, you could say “I’m still expecting a call back from …
Issa Rae
ACTOR, WRITER & PRODUCER
She finds herself without a TV series for the first time in eight years, but she’s certainly not idle. Instead, she’s been vocal about truth and accountability amidst Hollywood’s faltering diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Her production company, Hoorae Media, is involved with Keke Palmer and SZA’s upcoming film “One of Them Days”, as well as the short film “Grief Retreat” from last year. Furthermore, her character will reappear in the forthcoming episodes of “Black Mirror”.
If I were a man with this job … “I’d be doing romantic comedies.”
Hollywood’s takeaway from Trump’s re- election should be … “Your public endorsements don’t help.”
Shari Redstone
CHAIR, PARAMOUNT GLOBAL
For the controlling shareholder of Paramount Global, via National Amusements, 2024 was about legacy. She cut a deal to sell her family’s entertainment company to another family-owned business, David Ellison’s Skydance, in a bet that the new ownership would keep the company founded by her father alive and well. Redstone herself has been spending more of her time as a vocal opponent to the rise in hate speech and antisemitism, something deeply personal to her.
“Lesson for Hollywood from Trump’s re-election bid: It’s crucial that media outlets produce content that enlightens and informs, delivering news with impartiality, focusing on facts, providing context, and promoting civil dialogue and accountability.”
Amy Reisenbach
PRESIDENT, CBS ENTERTAINMENT
Discuss an impressive return to form. For quite some time, a television network hadn’t experienced a true success until Reisenbach’s second season of production. The revamped version of Matlock (with a unique twist!) featuring Kathy Bates garnered 16 million viewers in its initial broadcast month, and that number jumps to 23 million if you include encore showings. The series has been renewed for another season and could potentially place Bates in the Emmy award discussion.
The fictional character I feel a strong connection to right now could be Lucy, Charlie Brown, or even Snoopy – it all depends on which one resonates with me on a given day.
Rihanna
SINGER & ENTREPRENEUR
We’ll keep Rihanna on our list until she drops her ninth album, or Los Angeles experiences a catastrophic flood – whichever happens sooner. At the very least, music legend and cosmetic mogul Rihanna is still an active player in the entertainment industry. Her agreement to voice Smurfette in the upcoming “Smurfs Movie” also grants her co-producer credit. Make sure she gets paid what she deserves.
Margot Robbie
ACTOR & PRODUCER, LUCKYCHAP
A year following the unforgettable Barbie moment, I found myself celebrating Robbie’s highly anticipated LuckyChap production company – renowned for its commitment to female directors – as it released Megan Park’s widely praised movie, My Old Ass (boasting a 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes), exclusively through Amazon. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, I am thrilled to share that Robbie is currently producing and starring in Emerald Fennell’s captivating adaptation of Wuthering Heights, igniting a fierce bidding war among studios this year. Warner Bros. eventually secured the feature, promising a worldwide theatrical release. On top of all these accomplishments, I couldn’t be happier for Robbie as she recently welcomed her first child into the world! Mazel tov, Margot!
Zoe Saldaña
ACTOR & PRODUCER, CINESTAR
No longer confined by green or blue makeup and CGI, at least for the moment, Saldaña has been on one ever since she shared that best actress win at Cannes with her Emilia Pérez co-stars. She’s considered a frontrunner in the supporting actress race this Oscar season, and there may be Emmy campaigning on its heels. Saldaña stars in and produces (under the banner she runs with her sisters) Taylor Sheridan drama Lioness with — let’s just mention her again for fun — Nicole Kidman.
My trick to staying calm right now “Spending time with family, doing a lot of meditational breathing, and tackling my to-do list.”
My most played song of 2024 ” ‘Birds of a Feather,’ by Billie Eilish.”
Jennifer Salke
HEAD OF AMAZON MGM STUDIOS
Amazon’s leading creative executive had a very successful beginning to the year. She introduced her studio’s second most popular series, Fallout, which was both critically acclaimed and unexpectedly garnered 17 Emmy nominations. This was followed by the studio’s most watched feature yet, Jake Gyllenhaal’s lively reimagining of Road House, which attracted over 80 million viewers worldwide within its first eight weeks on Prime Video. Other impressive releases include the second season of The Rings of Power (let’s hope for a renewal), as well as Anne Hathaway’s hit romantic drama, The Idea of You.
One method I’m employing to maintain my composure is: “I’m making an effort to spend as much time as possible enjoying laughter and bonding with the people I care about – my kids, family, and dear friends. These relationships will endure and be more meaningful than any professional achievements.
“In my 2025 Hollywood forecast, I anticipate a greater focus on unique concepts. With this approach comes an elevated level of risk, but the potential payoff could be incredibly satisfying.”
Jen Sargent
CEO, WONDERY
In his role as head of Amazon’s top podcast studio and network, Sarget has been quite open about investing substantial sums in high-profile personalities. Lately, he acquired “New Heights With Jason and Travis Kelce” and “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shepard for a staggering $100 million and $80 million respectively. Podcast production is no walk in the park.
“How I’m managing to stay composed currently” “By finding a moment of peace in delaying the holiday tunes, if only for another seven days… correct?
As a gamer immersed in the rhythm of 2024, ‘Panic Switch’ by the Silversun Pickups has been my go-to anthem. I’ve spun this track so many times, it feels like leveling up in my personal soundtrack! Alas, my husband might be yearning for a different tune, as he’s heard this one a thousand times too many.
Leslie Siebert
CO-PRESIDENT, GERSH
As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I witnessed Angela Bassett receive an honorary Oscar and clinch her first Emmy. To top it off, she sealed an unprecedented deal to remain on the hit series 9-1-1, solidifying her place as one of television’s highest-paid actresses ever. My longtime favorite Kyle Chandler is back on our screens as the lead in HBO’s new show, Lanterns, and Sabrina Impacciatore, who stole hearts in season two of White Lotus, has landed a significant role in Greg Daniels’ reboot of The Office. Let’s be honest – it’s just amazing!
“These days, the fictional character I resonate most with is Gerri Kellman from Succession.
Sandra Stern
VICE CHAIR, LIONSGATE TV GROUP
This exceptional deal-maker persists in guiding her studio’s TV sector, keeping it at the pinnacle among independent providers of top-tier scripted series to networks such as broadcast, cable, streaming video on demand (SVOD), ad-supported video on demand (AVOD), and Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels. (It’s hard to debate with so many abbreviations.) The quality of the shows remains strong, with hits like Ghosts, among more than 100 shows available across over 50 different platforms.
Still waiting on a call from … “The French embassy.”
My professional crush “Bill Maher.”
Emma Stone
ACTOR & PRODUCER, FRUIT TREE
2023 started off on a high note for me, as I bagged another Best Actress Oscar for my role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ movie, “Poor Things.” Not only did I star in it, but I was also part of the production team, making Fruit Tree – my banner with my husband Dave McCary – known for its daring choices and strong connections with top-notch talent. Our work can be seen in HBO’s “Fantasmas” and Showtime’s “The Curse.
Meryl Streep
ACTOR
Acclaimed actress Meryl Streep holds significant clout in Hollywood, as she has the freedom to take on any role she desires. Currently, she’s eager to star in “Only Murders in the Building” alongside her good friend Martin Short, while also creating buzz about a potential sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.
Anjali Sud
CEO, TUBI
Beginning leadership in 2023, Sud has steered the most popular free TV and movie streaming service in America towards expanding its market share subtly. In August alone, Tubi accounted for approximately 1.8% of total television viewing within the U.S., a significant reach with over 81 million active monthly users. This impressive influence has enabled her to attract talent for more prestigious original content, such as securing Lauren Graham for their debut in-house scripted series, “The Z-Suite”.
In 2025, I predict a shift in Hollywood: “Specialized content will become the norm rather than the exception. We’ll see less of a focus on mass appeal and more emphasis on catering to various, distinct fan bases, with a stronger push towards personalized viewing experiences.
My most played song of 2024 “Chappell Roan’s ‘Hot to Go!’ It’s my work hype song.”
Sydney Sweeney
ACTOR & PRODUCER
Since the year when Euphoria and The White Lotus both received Emmy nominations, Sweeney has been highly sought-after in the industry. Following the success of the box office hit and popular airplane movie Anyone but You, she’s gone on to star in Immaculate and Ron Howard’s Eden. There’s no need to bring up her role in Madame Web. This skilled producer and promoter has a knack for acing press tours. She is expected to go back to the set of Euphoria in January, before filming Paul Feig’s The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried. Additionally, she’s already completed work on her biopic about Christy Martin.
My professional crush “Jennifer Coolidge.”
“If I had this occupation, I’d likely be a wealthy individual, perhaps even heading my own production company.”
Taylor Swift
SINGER, SONGWRITER & FILMMAKER
The record-breaking Eras Tour, which has ruled over concert events globally for two years, concludes in Vancouver just four days after this text is published, leaving uncertainty about what the world might be like post-Eras tour. This billionaire has been a dominant force in cultural discussions during this timeframe, most notably winning her fourth Album of the Year Grammy in February (for Midnights), making her the artist with the most wins in that category. She aims to secure her fifth win at the Recording Academy’s next event with The Tortured Poets Department album.
Charlize Theron
ACTOR & PRODUCER
It’s likely that Charlize Theron isn’t too upset about not playing Furiosa anymore. This year, she didn’t make an appearance on screen as she’s been engrossed in ventures outside of Hollywood, such as the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and her new children’s dance studio, The Six Compound, in Los Angeles. She’s currently occupied with projects including The Old Guard 2, a heist film titled Two for the Money (co-starring Daniel Craig), a Netflix thriller called Apex (with Taron Egerton), and she has recently joined Christopher Nolan’s latest production.
Taylor Tomlinson
COMIC & TV HOST
Tomlinson isn’t just recognized as one of the top-earning stand-up comedians on tour today or the sole woman in late-night television. Instead, she’s innovating with a format that’s often overlooked in the early morning hours. CBS’ “After Midnight,” debuting in January, breaks away from typical chat shows and rehashes of old Comedy Central programs it shares its name and basic idea with. Tomlinson has successfully transformed the panel show into her unique creation, attracting new audiences and securing an effortless renewal.
My trick to staying calm right now “Sleeping, staying informed and keeping good people around me.”
My most played song of 2024 “Whoever doesn’t say ‘Espresso’ is lying.”
Christine Vachon
PRODUCER, KILLER FILMS
The doyenne of indie filmmaking recently had the guts to stand up to Joaquin Phoenix when the actor dropped out of Todd Haynes’ gay romance movie five days before shooting was to begin. In going off, Vachon drew attention to the fact that the whims of certain power players in Hollywood can leave hundreds out of work on little notice. It wasn’t all Norma Rae, though. Her Killer Films’ put out Sebastian Stan’s Sundance darling A Different Man with A24 in September.
My trick to staying calm right now “A lot of Rose and the occasional martini.”
“If I were working in this position, I’d find myself discussing film production with a woman who has more industry experience than me.
Courtenay Valenti
HEAD OF THEATRICAL AND STREAMING FILM, AMAZON MGM STUDIOS
For the past two years, since Amazon brought on board Warner Bros. veteran Valenti as Jen Salke’s top film executive, his talent for creating a studio-caliber portfolio has been evident – managing projects like “The Nickel Boys”, “Challengers”, “Saltburn”, “The Beekeeper”, “My Old Ass”, “I Am: Celine Dion”, and Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, “Blink Twice“. Coming up next are two projects: the boxing drama “The Fire Inside” and “You’re Cordially Invited“, a movie that many of this year’s award recipients have expressed interest in.
My 2025 Hollywood Prediction: “Much like the wise words of William Goldman, who said that nobody in the movie business can be absolutely certain about what will succeed. Each attempt is essentially a gamble, and if you’re fortunate, it’s an informed guess.
Dana Walden
CO-CHAIR, DISNEY ENTERTAINMENT
Despite ongoing speculation about who will succeed Bob Iger, Walden has undeniably strengthened her case this year. She achieved an impressive milestone by securing 183 Emmy nominations for Disney TV – a record high. Moreover, Disney TV’s shows, particularly FX’s “Shogun” and “The Bear,” racked up a staggering 60 wins, leaving the competition in the dust (HBwhO?). Regardless of awards, Walden’s domain churns out over 4,500 hours of original programming every year – defying the trend of contraction in the industry with its vast output.
Kerry Washington
ACTOR & PRODUCER, SIMPSON STREET
Washington recently wrapped filming on Rian Johnson’s latest Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man, but you won’t have to wait another year to see her on Netflix. Her World War II drama The Six Triple Eight hits the streamer Dec. 20 after a brief theatrical run that kicks off Dec. 6. Washington has been producing more under her Simpson Street banner, including documentary Daughters, Hulu procedural Reasonable Doubt and her own late comedy vehicle UnPrisoned.
In the role I’d have, I would seek opportunities to leverage my position for the advantage of those who are in direst need.
Still waiting on a call from … “I choose to make calls rather than wait for them.”
Erin Westerman
CO-PRESIDENT, LIONSGATE MOTION PICTURE GROUP
The executive manages a diverse lineup of unique productions, which is unusual in today’s studio environment. Although not every project is a hit (such as Borderlands), Lionsgate’s schedule spans from faith-based titles like The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to action films directed by Guy Ritchie, such as Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It’s worth noting that Westerman is in charge of several profitable franchises including John Wick, Hunger Games, and Now You See Me, all with upcoming sequels set for release.
My trick to staying calm right now “Seeing the Eras Tour. Eight times.”
“Looking ahead to 2025, it’s predicted that we’ll rediscover the influence young people have on shaping culture. As a result, there will likely be an increase in movie productions catered towards this demographic.
Oprah Winfrey
CEO, OWN & HARPO PRODUCTIONS
The media mogul remains in a league of her own as one of the few individuals TV networks trust to explain big topics, evidenced by primetime specials this year on the surging use of weight-loss drugs and the sometimes confusing issue of artificial intelligence. She also has her cable channel, now a supplier to streamer Max, a film shingle (2023’s The Color Purple) and her acting career. She plays Mary McLeod Bethune in Tyler Perry’s historical drama The Six Triple Eight (out Dec. 6).
Alexis Martin Woodall
PRESIDENT, RYAN MURPHY PRODUCTIONS
The leading female executive within Ryan Murphy’s extensive production lineup, who orchestrated six new series in just ten days this past fall (a feat likened to a machine), has held an executive producer role for quite some time across his diverse portfolio. More recently, she expanded her role to include directing duties. Following a trial run with a standalone episode of ‘American Horror Story’ in 2023, Woodall directed three episodes of the FX series titled ‘Grotesquerie’.
Currently, my favorite filmmaker who captivates me professionally is Halina Reijn. The movie ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ left me astounded, almost perfect in my opinion. I eagerly anticipate her upcoming work, ‘Babygirl’, as she seems to narrate stories that resonate with me.
Janet Yang
PRESIDENT, ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES
After being re-elected for a third term as head of the film organization in August, the producer now has the freedom to focus on the 97th Academy Awards broadcast. And finally, they’ve found a host! ABC and the Academy selected Conan O’Brien in November, following an extended search that left many impatient.
In the hypothetical scenario where I’m a person with that job… “I would have more leisure time.
Zendaya
ACTOR
At the age of 28, she had been eagerly awaiting the release of her long-anticipated projects, “Dune: Part Two” and “Challengers”, which were set to debut in early 2024 following a production hiatus. Openly acknowledging her patience, she has now taken on a new role under Christopher Nolan’s direction, joining the cast that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and her co-star from “Spider-Man”, Tom Holland. At present, she is filming a project titled “The Drama“, alongside Robert Pattinson. Upon completion of this film, she will return to the set of “Euphoria“, a role that has already earned her two Emmy awards, solidifying her status as one of Hollywood’s rising stars.
