As a long-time Broadway enthusiast who has grown up with “Wicked” and its enchanting melodies, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming “Wicked Part 2”. The tantalizing tease from director Jon M. Chu about the inclusion of my favorite song “The Wicked Witch of the East” in the film has me buzzing with anticipation.

Chu has recently given us an exciting preview of my favorite song from Act II of “Wicked”, and I believe fans of Broadway will be ecstatic about it.

Information about “Wicked Part Two” is scarce, but fans anticipate a faithful adaptation of the musical’s second act, given that the first movie retained all songs and only slightly altered dialogue. Since it was announced that “Wicked” would have two films, the question on everyone’s mind has been whether the beloved song “The Wicked Witch Of The East” will be featured, as it was absent from the original Broadway cast recording. In an interview with ReelBlend, director Chu was asked about the possibility of this song being included in the film, potentially securing a place on its soundtrack. He responded affirmatively, suggesting that the song might indeed be part of the movie’s music.

As an enthusiast, I must admit that I’m still in the early stages of knowing what I can or cannot share, but let me tell you this, it’s a fantastic figure! Frankly, I believe the time has come for everyone to grasp this concept thoroughly, so they can repeatedly absorb and internalize it.

Is that noise you can hear? It sounds like the collective cheer from Broadway enthusiasts. This certainly seems like an optimistic signal. Although Chu has been cautious about discussing the second Wicked movie, he appears to concur that Nessa and Boq’s iconic duet from Act 2 is worth revisiting, over fifteen years after the original Broadway cast recording was released in 2003. To me, this strongly hints that “The Wicked Witch of The East” could feature in Part 2.

In Act 2, Nessa and Boq have a more significant role in “The Wicked Witch of The East”. This number reveals that Nessa has become the Governor of Munchkin Country following her father’s demise. However, she misuses her power to keep Boq near, disregarding his love for Glinda. Moreover, when the influence of The Grimmerie is considered, the plot becomes even more chaotic.

As Elphaba comes back to ask her sister to join her, their lingering issues erupt in a blend of dialogue and melodies. Crucial spoken exchanges occur between each vocal solo, conversations that play significant roles in key plot developments involving Nessa and Boq. This could be why the song was omitted from the cast recording.

It seems reasonable for “Wicked” to avoid revealing its spoilers, but since this is one of Nessa’s most significant songs, I’ve often felt frustrated about not having a recording of it. Instead, enthusiasts like me have been pushed towards watching unauthorized bootlegs of the song (along with collections of various performances of its finale).
