As a gamer who shares a passion for both the world of entertainment and mountainous adventures, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for Devra Wasserman. Born and raised in St. Louis Park, this extraordinary woman defied the odds by not only conquering the heights of Hollywood but also the peaks of the western United States.
Devra Wasserman, a former executive assistant in Hollywood and the spouse of producer, literature representative, and manager Larry Becsey, has passed away at the age of 74.
On October 23, Wasserman passed away at her residence in Los Angeles, following a prolonged struggle against ALS, as her spouse announced.
Devi Jane Wasserman, born on July 31, 1950, spent her childhood in St. Louis Park, a suburb near Minneapolis. She completed her high school education at St. Louis Park High School in 1968, and later graduated from the University of Denver in 1972.
In 1979, she relocated to Los Angeles with aspirations of launching a career within the showbiz industry. Over subsequent years, she gained experience working as a senior assistant for influential figures in entertainment management and legal circles.
In 1997, Wasserman crossed paths with Becsey, and they tied the knot in 2006. Together, they embarked on global adventures for his professional commitments and their mutual joy, but unfortunately, ALS restricted her movement 13 years ago.
They consistently supported the board of governors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and they held patron status at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Disney Hall, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Center Theatre Group, and various dance companies worldwide.
waterman cherished scaling mountains during late-night expeditions, as well as trekking with the Sierra Club – she accomplished 444 peaks and made it onto the Sierra Club’s HPS Completion List in 1995, summiting mountains across the western United States until ALS began to weaken her.
Back in 2007, Becsey was among those who established Intellectual Property Group, a literary management company. That year, he also played a part in producing the movie “In the Valley of Elah,” which Paul Haggis directed and co-wrote, with Tommy Lee Jones delivering an Oscar-worthy performance.
Beyond my loving spouse, I’m also fortunate to be surrounded by an extended family who stand by me in my journey. These include my dear brother David, vibrant cousins Mel, Holly, Burton, Rob, and Jeri, as well as my cherished nieces Jillian and Lisa, and my spirited nephew Mark.
This month, we’ll gather to honor her life. If you wish to make a donation in her name, you can contribute to the ALS Network or support ALS research at Cedars-Sinai.
