As a longtime admirer of Tom Tykwer’s captivating storytelling and profound insights into human emotions, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that he will be gracing us with his presence at the Berlinale once again! With his exceptional talent for weaving intricate narratives that resonate deeply with audiences, Tykwer has consistently managed to find beauty in the fractured and challenging aspects of our world.
Tom Tykwer is returning to the Berlinale.
The renowned German filmmaker behind “Run Lola Run,” “Cloud Atlas,” and “Three” is set to launch the 75th Berlin International Film Festival with his latest work, titled “Das Licht,” or “The Light.
The latest feature film by Tykwer since 2016’s “A Hologram for a King” is a contemporary German family drama starring Lars Eidinger, Nicolette Krebitz, and Tala al Deen. The narrative follows the Engels family: parents Tim (Eidinger) and Milena (Krebitz), their twin children Frieda (Elke Biesendorfer) and Jon (Julius Gause), and Milena’s son Dio (Elyas Eldridge). For years, the family has been drifting apart until they cross paths with Farrah (Tala Al-Deen), a mysterious Syrian housekeeper who uncovers long-hidden emotions. Farrah herself is working on a personal plan that could significantly alter the family’s destiny.
