As a seasoned movie enthusiast who’s been around the block more times than I care to admit, I must say that Robert Pattinson has come a long way since his early days of spinning yarns during interviews. From claiming he once witnessed a clown’s fiery demise at the circus to fabricating tales about being a women’s hand model, it seems the man had a knack for keeping us entertained back then.
Currently, Robert Pattinson is portraying truth and justice in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” series, but during the early stages of his career, this famous actor was more known for spinning yarns than saving Gotham City. In fact, he used to weave tall tales during interviews as a source of amusement, with many people unknowingly falling for his outlandish stories. One of his most intriguing tales involved claiming that he had witnessed clowns meeting their demise in a flaming crash when he was just a child.
In a recent chat with The New York Times Style Magazine, Robert Pattinson expressed astonishment at his composed demeanor during an old interview where he shared fantastical tales. He noted that there was no hesitation in his voice whatsoever when he told the bizarre clown story to Matt Lauer on Today (a 2011 interview you can watch below), as he promoted the movie Water for Elephants.
“The first time I went to the circus somebody died. One of the clowns died. His little car exploded. The joke car exploded on him. My parents, everybody ran out. It was terrifying. The only time I’ve ever been to a circus.”
It turns out that wasn’t his only fabrication; Robert Pattinson, in various interviews, admitted to untruths such as being a women’s hand model, the existence of a controversial deleted scene from Twilight, and his tactics for dealing with a female stalker involved dinner and sharing his problems. Fast forward 13 years, the star of Mickey 17 has disclosed that he engaged in these deceptions because he was feeling “bored.
“The only thing people would ever ask me about was being famous. You go into, like, a fugue state.”
We Don’t Blame Robert Pattinson For Lying
Instead of constantly scrutinizing Pattinson’s every word from interviews, it’s understandable that we don’t fault him for wanting to inject a bit of levity into his life. After all, everyone in the media is aware of the grueling experience known as press junkets, where celebrities are treated like livestock and compelled to repeat themselves repeatedly. Such an ordeal can be mentally and physically draining, so it’s no surprise that Pattinson might choose to tell a few harmless fibs for amusement.
Setting aside untruths, following his impressive performance in “The Batman” this year, Robert Pattinson is poised to captivate us once more in the upcoming dark sci-fi comedy “Mickey 17”. Joining him in an illustrious cast are Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. In the film, he portrays a disposable employee, where upon one’s demise, a new body is reborn with most of their memories still intact. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, who brought us “Parasite”, this movie promises to be exceptional.
In the interview with The New York Times, he mentioned possibly quitting acting after finishing the Batman trilogy, but it might just be a ploy to generate conversation. Regardless, there’s no denying that he’s made a significant mark in Hollywood, and even if he decides to step away, his status as one of this generation’s top actors is already set in stone.
