After Killing It With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Director Says Next Game Will Be Even Better

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and countless hours spent in the magical realm of Final Fantasy, I must say that the recent release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has sent me on a whirlwind of emotions. The nostalgia, the excitement, the anticipation – it’s all there!

Story Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the most enthralling RPGs of the year, released earlier in February.
  • The game belongs to a trilogy of remakes, meaning there are going to be three reimaginings of FF7.
  • The director of the project says that the final Final Fantasy 7 remake is going to be amazing.

In a chat with Final Fantasy Union, the director of the remake trilogy, Naoki Hamaguchi, has shared some exciting news for fans of the series. He confirmed that development on the next installment of Final Fantasy 7 is progressing steadily, and no corners are being cut in the process.

When questioned if Hamaguchi faced challenges during Rebirth’s creation that were generally unknown, the director expressed trust in Square Enix’s dedication. He was pleased to have ventured slightly from Final Fantasy’s conventional gameplay style and aimed at exploring a fresh path for the series’ future.

Yes, I think in terms of the team that I lead, the absolute, essential mission that we’ve been set by the company is to complete the 7 remake trilogy and finish it off and make it the best experience we possibly can. That’s absolutely priority number one,” said Naoki Hamaguchi.

Continuing with the conversation, Hamaguchi expressed his excitement about what “his group will produce in the time to come,” as Square Enix anticipates a series of upcoming projects aligned with their vision.

It bears mentioning that the developer is also working on Project Hikari at the moment, which is otherwise an immersive VR experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Won’t Get DLC

And that’s final.

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Hamaguchi has clarified in an interview that Square Enix is prioritizing the creation of the next installment in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series rather than dedicating resources to DLC expansions for Rebirth. So, it seems we won’t be seeing any additional content in the form of a Rebirth expansion in the future.

It’s clear that the audience’s enthusiasm for more content is palpable. I get where they’re coming from entirely, but based on my viewpoint, what fans crave the most isn’t necessarily additional content in the form of DLC. Rather, they seem to yearn for the third installment of the series to arrive as soon as possible.
