As a longtime fan of Fire Country, I must say that this recent turn of events has left me reeling like a fish out of water! The sudden rekindling of Gabriela and Jake’s relationship feels as unexpected as a gust of wind in a desert storm.
Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 3, Episode 7 are ahead! If you aren’t caught up, you can stream the CBS series with a Parmount+ subscription.
It came as quite a surprise when Fire Country ramped up the tension just before the mid-season finale of Season 3 was set to air on the 2024 TV schedule. After Bode and Gabriela’s disagreement (alongside other personal problems Stephanie Arcila’s character is experiencing), she made a decision concerning her Season 1 boyfriend, Jake, that I certainly didn’t anticipate!
Absolutely, in the seventh episode, Jake and Gabriela ended up together following some really tough days they both experienced. And let me tell you, I’m deeply affected by this turn of events.
To put it simply, throughout the season, Gabriela has been struggling emotionally. A turning point came in Episode 6 when Bode ended their relationship, which seemed to push her towards a potentially risky action with Camden. Fortunately, that didn’t occur. However, Jared Padalecki’s character returning Gabriela’s ID from that night to Sharon led to trouble for her, further exacerbating the negative state of mind she was already in.
Currently, Jake is deeply grieving Cara’s passing and finding it challenging to raise Gen. Since Rick (her biological father) entered her life and she discovered half-siblings, she has spent a significant amount of time in Idaho with them. In the recent episode, he shared that she wishes to remain there permanently. Therefore, this decision has been constantly on his mind.

Could you tell me if it’s safe to say that Max Thieriot’s description of firefighting as both a beneficial and detrimental obsession for Bode in season 3 of Fire Country is something that keeps coming to mind?
By the close of Episode 7, my gaming buddy and I found ourselves at the same location, reflecting on all the trials we’d faced. In a sudden whim, we chose to share a moment together, and as the credits rolled, we were locked in an intense embrace inside a heated vehicle.
Gabriela acknowledged that it seems like she and Jake were an item “eons ago.” To be honest, I had almost forgotten about their relationship given that Stephanie Arcila’s character has been involved with Bode, engaged to Diego, and then reunited with Bode since then. Reviving this romance is likely to have significant consequences for Gabriela, Jake, Bode, and the ENTIRE FIRE DEPARTMENT, as all of them are employed there.
In no conceivable scenario do I foresee this relationship turning out well or enduring for long. If it unfolds in such a way, I’d be quite surprised.
So far, it appeared that Max Thieriot’s, Arcila’s, and Calloway’s characters had all moved on from their past, finding a sense of peace. Jake too seemed to have come to terms with his best friend and ex-partner dating. Yet, this latest turn of events could potentially disrupt the relatively stable relationships they had established.
Beyond stating it, Jake holds the position of captain at Station 42, and both Gabriela and Bode are part of the team there. Consequently, if this relationship between them deepens beyond a casual encounter, it may stir up drama that could potentially involve Vince, Sharon, and the entire department as well.
All things considered, I find this decision by Fire Country rather unexpected, and I’m finding it challenging to grasp the idea of Gabriela and Jake becoming romantically involved. While I understand that their lives have been turned upside down, the suddenness of this choice leaves me puzzled about the potential repercussions and turmoil it may bring. Given that it’s likely to affect everyone they care for in Edgewater, I can only imagine the drama that will ensue.
On the other hand, I can’t wait to observe the reactions of everyone regarding this romance on the series, and it seems we’ll have that opportunity soon since Fire Country is scheduled to continue on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
