As someone who grew up watching these DreamWorks masterpieces, I can confidently say that if any of these films were to be adapted into live-action, it would undoubtedly be “Rise of the Guardians.” Now, don’t get me wrong; all those other movies are fantastic in their own right. But let’s face it, who doesn’t want to see Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy kicking some Boogieman butt?
Well, it was bound to happen eventually, wasn’t it?
It’s no surprise that with Disney earning profits from their live-action adaptations of classic animations, it was inevitable for other animation studios to explore the live-action genre as well. The most recent venture comes from DreamWorks, who are working on a live-action version of “How to Train Your Dragon“.
Currently, Disney’s live-action adaptations don’t quite grab my attention, but DreamWorks’ potential offerings excite me. Following the success of “How to Train Your Dragon,” there are clear choices like “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” or “Kung Fu Panda” for their next venture. However, if this remake proves successful, I believe there are far more intriguing paths they could explore instead. For instance…
The Boss Baby
The story of a big brother who works to help his baby brother (who arrives wearing a suit, no less) figure out why puppies are becoming more popular than babies is just as weird as it sounds on paper as it is on the screen.
The main joke is that the baby is voiced by Alec Baldwin (who even makes a sanitized reference to the very R-rated movie, Glengarry Glen Ross) and his parents have no idea that their new baby is a spy. Over the years, it’s become a whole franchise with a sequel and a TV series, and you know what? I think this would be a great live-action film.
Just to clarify, I’m not suggesting anything new is lacking. I grew up in the ’80s, so I watched “Look Who’s Talking” when it first came out. I also know about the “Baby Geniuses” series. But imagine if we could blend the elements of both these films with the creative imagination found in the “The Boss Baby” animated movies and TV show? That’s what I’m proposing here.
Although it may seem doubtful, I strongly sense that it will succeed, and if nothing else, it will certainly stand out among the Disney remakes.

The Croods
In a large cavern, a primitive family resides, engaging in activities such as hunting, gathering, and sleeping communally at night. One day, they meet an unconventional cave dweller with modern ideas that clash with the family’s patriarch. However, as the father gradually comes to understand that this newcomer might indeed be correct, amusing situations unfold.
I’ve got a strong fondness for both the original “Croods” film and its exceptional sequel, as well as the animated series, “The Croods: Family Tree.” Here’s the twist – despite expecting the caveman humor to grow stale eventually, it somehow never does. Just like “The Flintstones,” this family’s adventures seem to just keep getting more engaging and entertaining with each new installment.
Throughout their journey, it appears as though the Croods are gradually progressing, and I’m quite fond of the idea of a live-action film presenting something comparable. Unlike the world depicted in The Flintstones, where various cave people coexist with dinosaurs, this family’s world is persistently threatened by danger.
Absolutely, even though the humor is evident, such as Eep’s character having a peanut for a toe due to her original one supposedly being eaten, I find it intriguing to imagine a live-action adaptation that retains its silliness while also showcasing some genuine perils. It could indeed be an exciting venture!

Monsters Vs. Aliens
In a twist of events, a meteorite triggers a woman’s transformation into a colossal being. This titanic figure is confined in a detention center alongside beings labeled as monstrous. But when extraterrestrial invaders threaten Earth, it’s these so-called monsters who are called upon to defend our world – earning the fitting title for this tale.
The film “Monsters vs. Aliens,” produced by DreamWorks, was initially a massive success when it first came out (earning approximately $381 million globally), but now appears less well-known compared to other titles in their collection.
It’s unfortunate that this film is underrated, as it’s packed with humor, thrill, and excitement. I particularly enjoy characters such as Dr. Herbert Cockroach, Ph.D., and the colossal insect, Insectosaurus, which seems like a suitable adversary for one of Godzilla’s foes.
I think a live-action version could really benefit when it comes to Monsters vs. Aliens. For one thing, it could be baby’s first kaiju movie…that is, if you’re not the kind of parent who already takes their children to Godzilla movies. Secondly, I think all the modern special effects could make this movie feel fresh and new. Because it deserves another audience to fall in love with it, dammit!

Megamind
Somehow, a less-than-competent supervillain manages to overpower his longtime adversary. But with his enemy vanquished, the villain finds himself without purpose. To fill the void, he conjures up a new nemesis, but this move backfires catastrophically.
In the past, I envisioned a film adaptation of “Wreck-It Ralph” resembling the animated movie “Megamind.” The narrative revolves around an antagonist who isn’t truly malicious but rather misjudged, making for an engaging and entertaining live-action storyline.
To start off, I imagine it to have a playful, light-hearted feel, similar to watching movies like “We Could Be Heroes” or “Sky High.” Additionally, I envision it poking fun at films such as “Batman v Superman,” and incorporating various elements from other superhero movies that have graced our screens over the past few decades.
Among all the movies listed, I strongly believe that “Megamind” holds the most potential for a successful live-action adaptation. Its elements are well-defined, and it would be even more appealing if Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt were to reprise their roles in it.

Rise Of The Guardians
Protectors of childhood like Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, and Jack Frost need to band together to safeguard children’s creativity against the evil intentions of the Bogeyman.
The movie “Rise of the Guardians” is exceptionally appealing. Despite earning revenue, it didn’t quite reach the level of success, and regrettably, the Guardians have been overshadowed in DreamWorks animation ever since. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that these characters merit another opportunity, and I think this could be accomplished through live-action.
A part of me thinks it would be somewhat in the vein of a Red One, but I think it would be cool if they really leaned into the idea of children losing their sense of wonder due to a boogie man trying to take it away from them.
I often ponder every year about when my kids, aged 9 and 7, might give up on the belief in figures like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. A tale that explores parents’ hopes to preserve their children’s enchantment with such magical characters could serve as a captivating introduction to the realm of childhood fantasies.

The Prince Of Egypt
To conclude, could there be a more fitting choice for DreamWorks to bring to life-action than arguably their finest creation, The Prince of Egypt? This tale follows Moses’ journey from his childhood to becoming a prophet, filled with stunning animation and music. Not only does it captivate the hearts of younger viewers by making the Book of Exodus exciting, but in every aspect, it truly shines as a success.
I’m somewhat uncertain about adding it to the list because the film functions exceptionally well in its animated form. Transforming it into live-action could potentially diminish some of its charm.
As a gamer, I believe there’s an opportunity to amplify the majesty and grandeur of The Ten Commandments in live-action format. This iconic film has left a lasting impression on many, and while I’m unsure if a Prince of Egypt remake could match its greatness, I can’t help but feel that attempting such a project might be worthwhile.
Which one of these movies, if any, would you like to see next after How to Train Your Dragon?
