As a devoted fan and admirer of the captivating world of entertainment, I must express my awe for Chris Diamantopoulos, whose illustrious career spans across various genres and mediums. His latest endeavor, “The Sticky,” is a testament to his versatility as an actor and his uncanny ability to breathe life into even the most intricate characters.
The six-episode series titled “The Sticky“, currently streaming on Prime Video and starring Margo Martindale, is a fictionalized account inspired by the real-life Canadian Maple Syrup Heist scandal. A tale that seems too unbelievable to be true, the heist took place between 2011 and 2012, resulting in an astonishing C$18.1 million (USD 12.7 million) being pilfered from a warehouse in Quebec. Chris Diamantopoulos, recognized for his roles in shows like “Silicon Valley,” “Mrs. Davis,” and “The Boys in the Boat,” among many others, recently shared insights about his role in the series as well as the actor initially considered for his character, Mike Byrne, with MovieWeb.
Initially, Diamantopoulos showed no interest in the project, but after some modifications, he became fully committed to the direction of “The Sticky”. He shared, “Upon reading the script, I wasn’t instantly captivated, but my agent persisted with this project and kept contacting me about it… It seemed they were initially targeting Dan Aykroyd, but there wasn’t much overlap between our roles.” Fortunately, the introduction of Martindale transformed the series for Diamantopoulos.
When Margo [Martindale] received the offer for the role, they thoroughly revised the script to fit her style, and the character became one I felt compelled to portray. I put up a strong fight for the part; in fact, that’s an understatement since they had already considered other actors. I boldly asserted myself and said something like, “Listen, I wouldn’t take on this role unless I truly believed in it, but if you want this project to thrive, you need me.” After I said that, I regretted my words because it wasn’t the right thing to say, but I genuinely felt passionate about it.
It appears that altering the original plan has largely been beneficial, since The Sticky now boasts an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its six-episode debut on December 6, despite having a relatively small number of reviews.
Diamantopoulos Shared the Screen With a Legendary Scream Queen
In the Prime Video series The Sticky, Jamie Lee Curtis joins forces with Martindale and Diamantopoulos, amplifying the star-studded lineup of the show. Acting alongside an actress renowned for films like True Lies and the Halloween franchise was a delightful opportunity for Diamantopoulos, who expressed his excitement as “The prospect of going toe-to-toe with Margo Martindale and Jamie Lee Curtis – that’s an offer I simply can’t resist.” As the series unfolds, Diamantopoulos’ character undergoes significant changes.
Peer just a bit beneath the exterior, and you’ll discover a plethora of insecurities and shadows from his past. There’s not only amusement but also deep emotions that this character offers. Over the course of six brief half-hour episodes, he showcases a wide range, from one extreme to another. Initially, we might perceive him as something specific, but he ends up surprising us with something entirely different.
The show known as “The Sticky” hasn’t been renewed for another season just yet, however, the initial six episodes can be streamed right away on Amazon Prime Video.
