As a devoted follower of Bollywood, I have had the privilege of witnessing some truly extraordinary performances and heartwarming moments throughout my years of watching Indian cinema. One such moment that stands out to me is Kareena Kapoor Khan’s recent reflection on her experience working with Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha.
Kareena Kapoor Khan recently sat down with Vicky Kaushal, Shabana Azmi, Rajkummar Rao, and Anna Ben in a discussion among actors. In this talk, the actress shared that Aamir Khan was deeply affected when Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t succeed as well as she believed her character ‘Rupa’ from another project had a greater impact on her than Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again.
During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, the host brought up Kareena Kapoor Khan’s past interview where she discussed reaching out to director Advait Chandan and Aamir Khan following the underperformance of Laal Singh Chaddha. In her previous conversation, she expressed that she doesn’t measure her relationships or abilities based on a movie that didn’t succeed. When prompted about this, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared her great pride in being part of making that film.
Expressing great admiration for the 2022 comedy-drama movie Laal Singh Chaddha, the Bollywood starlet expressed it as a stunning and authentic production. She also highly respected “veteran actor and icon” Aamir Khan, who stood firmly behind this film. However, she confessed, “Indeed, he was deeply affected.
Kareena Kapoor-Khan reminisced about encountering Aamir Khan at a function, where he said to her, ‘Our film didn’t take off, but you will still talk to me, won’t you?’ Kareena perceived that Aamir was expressing regret over their movie’s failure. However, she is elated because Aamir gave her the character of Rupa, as she believes the role has had a greater impact on her career than another blockbuster like Singham might have done, which she revealed later on.
When Shabana Azmi requested for more details, the actress from the Crew crew explained that the character written by Advait was captivating to her, and she enjoyed playing it due to its numerous aspects to explore. Additionally, she acknowledged that they didn’t anticipate making the movie would reach the RS 500 crore mark at the box office.
As a die-hard admirer, I can attest that, from the depths of her being, she poured every ounce of passion into its creation – and everyone involved gave it their all. Reflecting on the extraordinary character of Aamir Khan, she vividly remembers the challenging times when the COVID-19 pandemic had struck, and she found herself expecting her second child, Jeh. In those uncertain moments, she grappled with how to share this joyous news with her fellow actor while we were deep into the film production – 60% complete, to be precise.
After being convinced by Saif Ali Khan, she eventually shared the news with Khan, which led to her feeling at ease due to the Laapataa Ladies producer’s supportive response. Aamir informed Kareena that he was pleased for her, expressed their eagerness to work with her, and pledged that they would collaborate on the movie regardless of the challenges. This moment served as a revelation for the Refugee debutant that there are individuals in the industry who appreciate others and respect their decisions.
