- Blob Attack: Tower Defense is out now on the iOS App Store
- It’s a simple tower defense game that pits you against oncoming slimes
- Gather energy, unlock new weapons and so on
As someone who has spent countless hours navigating the vast expanse of mobile gaming, I can say with confidence that Blob Attack: Tower Defense is a game that will appeal to those seeking a straightforward tower defense experience. The simplicity and familiarity of the gameplay are undeniably comforting, much like slipping into an old, well-worn pair of slippers after a long day.
Occasionally, it can be refreshing to engage with a game that’s straightforward and traditional within its genre. Without any fancy twists or complex layers, Blob Attack: Tower Defense, our focus today, delivers just that. Developed by the talented solo creator Stanislav Buchkov, let’s explore what he brings to the table.
This individual-made game is currently available on the iOS App Store, offering nothing particularly extraordinary in terms of description. The gameplay revolves around typical actions common within its genre. You construct towers, amass energy, and progressively unlock stronger weaponry to repel your adversaries.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the recent surge in those gooey blobs of slime popping up in games like Dragon Quest, adding a unique twist to the traditional fantasy setting. Yet, as appealing as they may seem, there’s always a catch, isn’t there?
A bit of an art issue
I think the only thing that really stood out to me about Blob Attack was, unfortunately, the presence of AI art on the store page and (I would assume) in-game. It’s a shame as well because although Blob Attack looks to be simple, that shouldn’t necessarily mean bad, but that kind of art does tend to put me off giving it a chance it would sorely deserve.
Examining Stanislav’s other creations on the app store, there seems to be a recurring theme which is unfortunate since their other projects such as Dungeon Craft (a pixelated RPG) have potential if not for that impersonal feel hinting at being generated by a computer algorithm.
If you’re open to considering more possibilities, we think there may be alternatives for you. Perhaps it would be worth exploring the newest addition to Off the AppStore to discover games that can be played through alternative third-party marketplaces?
