As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of crime dramas, I can confidently say that FBI: International is a welcome addition to my TV schedule. With Jay Hayden joining the cast as Agent Tyler Booth, the show promises to deliver an engaging and captivating narrative that will keep viewers hooked.
The FBI’s global team is set to welcome a new agent in the upcoming episodes of “FBI: International,” as Jay Hayden from “Station 19” is joining the popular CBS series. In this role, Hayden portrays Tyler Booth, an agent who typically operates out of the U.S., but teams up with Wes Mitchell when a case leads him to Budapest. During an interview with TopMob, Hayden shared the reasons behind his decision to return to television so quickly after “Station 19,” and it’s not only due to his real-life camaraderie with Jesse Lee Soffer.
In an upcoming episode on December 10 (available for streaming with a Paramount+ subscription), Jay Hayden steps into his role in “FBI: International” – one of the series’ final episodes before Season 4 resumes on TV in 2025. Following the conclusion of “Station 19” over the summer, this return to network television isn’t common among actors due to its demanding schedule. However, Hayden shared his reasons for jumping back into primetime so swiftly.
I never thought this would happen – I thought I was set for a lengthy rest post Station 19, but an intriguing chance to collaborate on a Wolf Entertainment production came along. I’ve longed to dive into that genre and no one does crime drama quite like them. To top it off, I get to team up with my dear friend Jesse Lee Soffer. Given these factors, I couldn’t resist returning early! [laughs] It’s been a real treat so far! It’s fantastic!
Jay Hayden speaks truthfully when he points out that the Wolf Entertainment team excels uniquely in creating crime dramas, a fact evident from their current TV universe consisting of nine shows, seven of which are crime-centric series. His statement about Jesse Lee Soffer aligns with what Soffer had shared earlier this fall, expressing his close friendship with him during Season 4.
Agent Tyler Booth won’t be a replica of Travis Montgomery, since Jay Hayden played that Station 19 character for five seasons and over a hundred episodes. Instead, he was drawn to the character in International for specific reasons.
During my conversation with showrunner Matt Olmstead about the character he created so vividly, a particular aspect resonated deeply with me – his strong bond with his daughter and how crucial she is to him. I could see how deeply he’d react when she was in danger, and I found myself connecting to that. His affection for his daughter struck a chord, and the fact that she occasionally had to offer guidance, something I could relate to as well, made me appreciate it even more. Laughing, I agreed, ‘Yes, I really like that!’
In reality, Hayden has two children, which might explain why his character’s bond with his daughter resonated with him. However, being a father isn’t the only factor that distinguishes Booth from Travis on Station 19. Another aspect of the role stood out to him as an actor. He gave a sneak peek into the kind of agent Booth is, and it appears he could cause just as many issues for Smitty as Wes did at the start of the season.
Ah, this role presents an intriguing shift for me, given that he occasionally takes unconventional paths. He’s under the impression that shortcuts could be the key to our objectives, which is quite contrary to Wes Mitchell’s methods. I was eager to delve into a character I hadn’t explored before.
Viewers should tune in on December 10 for the latest episode titled “Keen as a Bean”. Here, we’ll get a glimpse of the duo Tyler Booth and Wes Mitchell. While their dynamic remains to be seen, it’s revealed that Booth is Mitchell’s “former associate”, who requires the assistance of the Fly Team in apprehending a criminal on the American Most Wanted list. To capture him, they plan to use the ex-wife of the suspect as bait, who resides in Russia.
It’s clear that fans of Station 19 can grasp Hayden’s reference to playing a unique character in the Wolf universe. When I asked the newcomer from FBI: International how he would appeal to Station 19 fans to tune into his debut on CBS, he shared his thoughts with me.
As a fan myself, I must admit this show offers a fresh and distinct vibe that truly captivates me. Before diving into it completely, I had a sneak peek at four episodes to grasp its essence, its rhythm. And let me tell you, I’m hooked! It might not be the Travis character anymore, but rest assured, there’s still a piece of me in every role I play, so I believe viewers will appreciate it. I genuinely think it’s worth their time and investment.
Don’t forget to tune into CBS on December 10 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time to witness Jay Hayden’s premiere as Agent Tyler Booth in FBI: International. As usual, International follows FBI at 8 p.m. ET and precedes FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. Given that Hayden will appear in numerous episodes of the fourth season, it’s worth tuning in to catch his first appearance. If you prefer streaming to watching live, you can also stream “Keen as a Bean” on Paramount+.
