As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for unique and quirky collaborations, I must say that the Nanga x Original Duckhead umbrella has certainly caught my eye (and possibly my next rainy day savior). The shared avian influence between these two brands is nothing short of inspired, and it’s always refreshing to see such a creative partnership.
2024 has been an exhilarating year for me, as I’ve been fortunate to partner with a diverse range of esteemed brands like HAVEN, fragment design, Engineered Garments, 18 East, and many more. But now, something truly unique is taking off – Nanga is joining forces with Original Duckhead, an iconic umbrella manufacturer, for a collaboration that’s all about the feathered friends in our skies!
The Nanga Original Duckhead Umbrella showcases the common avian theme between the two brands – for Nanga, it’s their distinctive duck-feather lining found in jackets and sleeping bags, while Original Duckhead boasts its umbrella handles decorated with a duck head. The umbrella sports a green canopy with a white, feather-like pattern, green hardware, and a natural wood handle. Additionally, it comes in a case that mimics one of Nanga’s sleeping bags.
The idea for a collaboration between Nanga and another brand originated during a visit to New York City in 2023, where the Nanga team found themselves captivated by the Original Duckhead umbrella at the MoMA Design Store. Enamored with their purchase, they took several back to Japan, realizing the complementary nature of the brands. As Tomoyuki Yokota, Nanga’s founder and president, stated, “The collaboration seemed like a perfect match, and we are excited to bring it to fruition.
