As a seasoned gamer of the Dick Wolf TV universe, I must confess that my heart skipped a beat when the Queens District Attorney met her untimely demise in the latest episode of FBI: Most Wanted. With a history of watching every twist and turn of Law & Order since its inception, I couldn’t help but think that this was a sign of things to come within the connected TV universe.
Beware! The following contains spoilers for the seventh episode of FBI: Most Wanted’s sixth season titled “Highway to Hell.” You can watch it on Paramount+ with a valid subscription.
In the recently aired episode of “FBI: Most Wanted” as per the 2024 TV lineup, the task force found themselves investigating a triple homicide in New York City. This case eventually unraveled a money laundering operation and a hazardous motorcycle gang. This week, the character receiving the most attention was Remy, with the reappearance of Abby. Their bond, as previously mentioned by showrunner David Hudgins, remains strong this season. The events seem to hint at a significant death that could potentially link with NBC’s “Law & Order” branch of Dick Wolf’s expansive 9-show TV universe, leaving viewers speculating about its implications.
Initially, the task force took up the case following the murder of both the Queens District Attorney and her spouse. At that moment, I instinctively thought about Tony Goldwyn’s character on Law & Order. However, it’s Nick Baxter who serves as the DA for Manhattan, implying that the killing off of the Queens DA in FBI: Most Wanted doesn’t suggest a split in the interconnected TV universe. This connection between shows was established after a crossover episode between Chicago P.D. and FBI back in 2020.
As we approach the 2025 TV schedule, it’s clear that the themes of both shows still align nicely. However, I don’t foresee Most Wanted delving into the story of a slain DA, given that Remy and their team have plenty of new criminals to pursue across the nation each week. A series more likely to tackle the subject of an executed district attorney or the process of finding her replacement would be Law & Order.
Instead of implying that the new year’s first episode of Law & Order might delve into Most Wanted’s slain DA as a full plotline, it could instead subtly refer to it as an amusing and virtually harmless Easter egg. The replacement Queens DA wouldn’t significantly alter Law & Order’s main narrative, and even Law & Order: SVU’s recent storylines have predominantly featured cases from The Bronx, Bruno, and BX9. A wink from the Law & Order universe towards Most Wanted could be enjoyable, and might be so subtle that only those who watch both shows would recognize it.
Could it be possible that this might occur? It’s uncertain, but given that numerous linked series are based in the same city and a recent episode of FBI seemed ripe for a Law & Order guest appearance, if not for complications involving Jeremy Sisto’s character Jubal, it’s hard not to ponder. Moreover, One Chicago is planning a major three-part crossover in the new year; so, why not entertain the idea of similar collaborations among the other five shows within the franchise?
If “Law & Order” seems to pay tribute to “Most Wanted” by eliminating the Queens DA, it won’t occur soon. The popular NBC series has already concluded its fall season finale and won’t return until Thursday, January 16 at 8 p.m. ET, preceding “SVU” at 9 p.m. ET. However, there is one more episode of “Most Wanted” left before the year ends, with their fall finale airing on Tuesday, December 17 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
