As a seasoned gamer with a knack for deciphering Hollywood’s intricate web of rumors and casting speculations, I must admit, the prospect of Paul Mescal stepping into the shoes of Sir Paul McCartney is nothing short of exhilarating! Having grown up listening to the Beatles’ iconic tunes and admiring their timeless legacy, the idea of witnessing such a portrayal on the silver screen feels like a dream come true.
Ridley Scott‘s plans to work with Paul Mescal again might be on hold, thanks to the Beatles.
In a chat with filmmaker Christopher Nolan following a screening of Ridley Scott’s movie “Gladiator II” at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Scott mentioned that his upcoming project will be the thriller film titled “The Dog Stars.” When Nolan asked if Michael Fassbender, who has been reportedly linked to this project, would be a part of it, Scott confirmed that yes, Fassbender is indeed involved. However, he later clarified that Fassbender’s busy schedule might mean that the “Gladiator II” co-stars won’t reteam for the new film. Instead, as per Scott, Fassbender is expected to star in Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies produced by Sony Pictures.
Scott confirmed that there’s a possibility of Mescal appearing in ‘The Dog Stars’, but he mentioned that Paul is currently busy with a project on The Beatles. This might require Scott to release him from the role.
Although the studio hasn’t officially announced it yet, there are whispers that Mescal is strongly being considered for the role of Paul McCartney in the upcoming quartet of biopics directed by Mendes. Each movie will be a standalone production focusing on one of the four main band members – McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, and Starr – and will be shown in cinemas.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last month, Mescal was questioned about the possibility of him playing Paul McCartney due to rumors circulating. He responded by expressing his excitement at potentially being connected to such a fascinating tale, stating, “It would be an amazing story to be part of.” Furthermore, he mentioned that having Sam Mendes as the director for the project would make it truly a dream come true. However, when directly asked if he would indeed portray McCartney, Mescal remained tight-lipped, saying, “No, no, no – we’re not going there.
Additionally, last month, Ringo Starr, a member of The Beatles, revealed to Entertainment Tonight that Barry Keoghan is set to portray him in upcoming films, and he’s aware that the actor has been learning drum skills. There have been whispers suggesting Joseph Quinn might also be in contention for a part.
At the point when Starr made his comments, no agreements had been finalized for any cast members, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter; they have since reached out to Sony for a statement regarding Scott’s remarks.
Previously, Sony Pictures’ head Tom Rothman expressed to THR that the boldness of their project, which gained approval from Apple Corps, needed a daring release strategy. He mentioned that since there hasn’t been anything like this before, conventional release methods couldn’t be applied.
