Ridley Scott Reveals That Paul Mescal Is Playing Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes' Beatles Biopics

As a lifelong Beatles fan and someone who vividly remembers the thrill of their music echoing through my youth, I must say that the prospect of Paul Mescal taking on the role of Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes‘ upcoming biopics has me all shook up!

Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics may have found its Paul McCartney in Paul Mescal.

The director of Gladiator II, Ridley Scott, announced that Michael Mescal will be one of the main characters in the sequel during a conversation with Christopher Nolan after watching a screening. Later, when discussing his upcoming project, The Dog Stars, Nolan inquired about the rumors surrounding Mescal’s casting. According to Scott (via THR), there is some truth to the rumor; however, he expressed uncertainty due to Mescal’s busy schedule, as he is currently working on a project about the Beatles. This could potentially lead to him having to let Mescal go from the film.

At the moment of this writing, nothing is definitive. Previously, Mescal expressed to Entertainment Tonight that being involved in the project would be a dream come true for him. He stated, “It would be an incredible tale to be associated with.” He added that with Sam Mendes directing, it would indeed be a dream come true. However, when asked about his casting as McCartney, Mescal kept quiet and declined to confirm.

Mendes’ planned Beatles biographical series is set to unfold across four episodes, each delving into the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr individually. These stories will also interweave to portray the band collectively. In a statement made in late November, Starr confirmed that Barry Keoghan has been cast as him in the production, although further details have yet to be disclosed.
